A/C thermostat

The thermostat for the front a/c seems to be slowly dying. Since they look like they are originals, I'd like to replace both 'stats. Other than Foretravel, where's a good source for a replacement? I'm open to upgrading, as well as another 'stat just like what's here.

David,
Couple years between our models so I don't know if it's the same.  But I replaced both of mine with battery operated digital units from Hunter ($20-$40 from Walmart) that would commonly be used in a home.  Much better at keeping a consistent temperature - mostly noticeable with the furnace.  Trick is figuring out which wire goes where as the standard color code for a home thermostat is useless with these RV units.  I had to pull off old unit and test to see what wire needs to connect to what other wire for heat, a/c, and fan only.  IIRC, there's one 12 volt hot wire and connections to the others trigger various functions.  A battery operated unit is required to work with an RV due to the 12 volt control.  Non-battery operated thermostats rely on home HVAC that feeds a industry standard 24 VAC.

Thanks, John. We'll be at Wal-Mart Sunday, so I'll see what I can find then. In the meantime I'll see what I can see with the old 'stat.

David, If this is the analog type with an on/off switch and a slider for temp it can be repaired.  Call Bill Hendrix in Erie, CO.  He knows what he is doing.  I will get you his phone # when I can.

Thanks, Gary. Yes, it is the analog 'stat. There is a ribbon cable that comes out from the end of the cabinet and goes to the 'stat. I suspect that the other end is at the a/c. Figuring out which tiny wire does what is beyond what my vision can do, so it looks like I need to get another 'stat or else find someone with younger eyes. Your old thread included an offer from Kent, so I've sent him a message asking if he still has any spares.

I'm thinking that maybe the best solution might be to get a spare and then send this one to Bill Hendrix for repair. What do you think?

David, Sounds like a plan to me.  Call Bill Hendrix first, he can guide you. The first one he repaired for me lasted many years.  The weak point is the slide switch, if you are ham handed the solder joint will crack and then you are SOL.
Replacing this thermostat is not an easy task.  Any old big  box unit will not work.  To change to the newer button type you will need a new board in the Roof unit plus ribbon cable adapters.
