Wiper motor is toast....new one? **Update***

Well after 25 years of service the driver side wiper motor needs to be replaced. The motor didn't have enough juice to move the arm unassisted. If I pushed on the arm it would them slowly move up but not down on its own.  I checked all the assembly arm and they are all moving freely.  After getting the motor removed today I was unable to find a part # on it. Only the dated code of 04/23/88.  Auto parts store were unable to find anything close for a match.

I plan on calling Nac on Monday but in the mean time is there anyone that knows the part # or what vehicle Nac used for that motor for a '89 GV??

Jeff, Check with GRAINGER, when I replaced a wiper motor on an 82 that is where I got it.

Jeff  ----  If you're not sure if it is the motor or not,  you may want to trade motors with the passenger side and see what the result is.  Mine run at different speeds and are never in synch, bothers an OCD guy like me!  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

After speaking with Billy Jack at FT, he was able to give me the supplier info and model number of the wiper motor. However the AEI corp no longer makes that model either.  So I dropped the motor off at a local electrical repair shop and he opened up the motor and said it was a little dirty but considering the age he said it was close to "new" condition and working properly. He suggested I clean the ground and look at the wiper mechinism, BTW I had already done and WD-40 eveything inside.  I can home and re-installed the motor and reconnected everything after cleaning all the connections. I also loosened the main bolt holding the main wiper arm to the main pivot bolt. Wouldn't you know it...Presto!! Working wipers!

In case any of you need replacement parts AEI corp out of OK does supply internal parts if you want to rebuild it yourself or have someone else do it for you.  Sorry I left the part # and company phone # on my desk at work. I'll post again for you all once I return to the office.

Thanks again to Bilky Jack he was very helpful with "old" information.

Just a comment about the WD-40 stuff. I do not use it for lubrication as I do not believe it has anything to offer in that regards.
Ok for getting something apart but would caution about relying on it to do the lubing

  I agree. Not much for lubrication. WD=water displacement!

I agree guys....I just used I to clean it and free up the linkage.  I have some marine white lube grease that I was planning on using before our trip. Unless you guys have some experience with something better?

Not familiar with any white lube that is waterproof

Axel grease works just fine and it keeps your battery posts looking good.  I don't use it on my toast tho!!  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

I was told that WD is kerosene with a perfume in it.

WD40 makes a great Diesel starting fluid.

I carry WD40 just for that purpose. Sometimes difficult to start after a filter change. Refuse  to use ether, don't understand why there is an ether start button on my dash.
