A/H exhaust

After arriving in Plattsburgh, NY, I noticed the chrome extension was missing from my A/H exhaust pipe. On inspecting the pipe, I find a firm intact appearing exhaust coming out of the bottom of the coach about 24-28 inches long with a single pipe strap bracket. On the end of this pipe is an 8-10 inch larger section, firmly welded to the proximal pipe and with a side opening. There are no scratches or other indication that an extension was attached. The opening is pointed inboard and is about a foot inboard from the outer bottom edge of the fiberglass compartment door. What did I lose? How was it attached? Why does the end of the exhaust point inward? Help! Can I run the diesel boiler this way? Will try to get pictures when the rain stops.

Try toposta photo of the bent in section.  I think the larger section of pipe is a muffler/resonator for the exhaust.  Have heard the AH is very loud at exhaust, mibe is fairly quiet.  I cut the tip off the exhaust so t would blow the exhaust away from the coach, not back under.

Horace,

I believe your heater is mounted on the side behind the driver's front wheel.  The exhaust extends from an elbow that is screwed into the outlet of the heater.  An impact could move the exhaust pipe and elbow to point more toward the rear of the coach.  Grab hold of the pipe and pull forward so the pipe is 90 degrees to the center line of the coach.

If the pipe does not extend a few inches beyond the side of the coach, remove pipe at the heater elbow, take it to an auto exhaust repair shop and have a new one long enough made.  The pipe is held on by exhaust U-clamps.  If you want a shiny tip install one also just get the tip out beyond the side of the coach, not under the coach.  Suggest you request 1.75 inch tube for the new pipe.

Running the burner with the exhaust venting under the coach is not recommended.  A lot of very hot air very close to the fiberglass belly.

Rudy, thanks. The right angle pearl was the answer. The strap that I thought was secure is in fact pulled loose from the coach and an impact had indeed rotated the whole assembly towards the rear. It took a little effort but now the exhaust emerges under the coach at right angles to the axis of the coach and the muffler end is away from the body of the coach. Now all I need is a new supporting strap. A simple solution to simple problem.
Actually, my heater is in the 2nd bay behind the left front wheel, and the exhaust before I rotated it as you suggested was venting right under the fuel tank, oh, oh!
