New to the Forum

Hi All,
My wife and I are now interested in a Foretravel.  We now own a 2013 30' Classic Airstream, pulled by a 2012 Dodge Longhorn, Diesel (with actual 5' Texas longhorns on the front).  You might have seen us.  This is first and only thing we have ever owned or pulled.  Anyway, we have been full-timing just over a year now, and loving it.  My wife now can see us in a Class A (probably 38').  At first we were both scared to death of something as "Big" as a Class A.  Now, she would not mind a little more room.  I believe I can drive it.

So please pardon our ignorance, as we attempt to educate ourselves. It seems we are starting all over again.  First, can anyone tell me what "MOT" means and what they do?  I believe "FOT" means Foretravel of Texas at Nac.

MOT = Motorhomes of Texas.  Welcome to the forum.  So...MOT is in the business of selling, consigning and maintaining motorhomes and from time to time Pull-Behinds (traded-in I suspect)

Welcome to the Forum, tell us where you are at.  Maybe someone is close by that you could have a look at there Coach.  Always good to take a look at all the features and talk to a real owner.  We are all glad to help you find your Dream Foretravel Coach.

Welcome! There are several people here how have moved from Airstreams to Foretravels, so you will probably be hearing from them. Are you going to keep your Dodge as a toad (vehicle towed behind a motorhome) or get something smaller? If you haven't already done so, check out Luxury Pre-Owned Motorhome Dealer for Foretravel Newell Country Coach. and Foretravel Texas - Luxury Motorcoach Sales for their inventories. I don't think FOT will take your 'Stream as a trade-in, but you can always ask. Since you have a year of full-timing experience you have a better idea of what you need that your 'Stream doesn't offer.

As Jimmy said, let us know where you are (or check the members map) and visit one of us.

Much Thanks to you all for your kind Welcome and encouraging words.  This does feel like family.

We are now in Rochester, Mass. for another week, then heading through Canada, to Thousand Trails in at St. Clarie near Detroit, MI, to Grand Rapids, MI for yearly service on the Airstream before selling or trading, and then to Texas (slight chance this could change to Florida). 

BTW, I do plan on also sell my truck and getting a small tow vehicle (see photo).

It would really be appreciated if we are near anyone who would be willing to let us tour their Foretravel.  There would be no better way to see what you like. 

Now that we know what MOT means, we did see so very nice units there.  My question is, if you were to consider purchasing say from MOT or FOT, how would you go about a pre-purchase inspection on your Foretravel?  Normally, would they be your first choice to do your inspection, then a individual who would have all the equipment, time and space to do such a inspection?

Welcome!! You will find a great deal of information here and great friendly people to go with it.  We are in Romeo MI just outside of St. Clair, so depending on when you are in the area you can send me a PM and we would be happy to show you how well a FT is built.  Ours is 25 years old and going strong. Just returned from 11 day tour of WV, PA, NY and DC....9% grades in WV with no issues at a steady 45 MPH and 10.7 MPG to boot (no toad).

I think the next question you might ask your selves is "When" you wish to make the transition to a FT.  If you are thinking in the very near future you may put a deposit on a coach you like and have it inspected.  Many here feel that Brett Wolfe, who is a member of this forum, does a great inspection job. If you perform a search on his name on this forum you will see many posts with his name in them.

Many here have purchased from MOT and FOT and most seem to feel that the product that they purchased and the service they received was very good. 

We found ours in Las Cruces, NM and performed our own PDI.  Without a doubt Brett would have done a more comprehensive / better job than we did. but we did OK. 

PDI  is a good starting point in learning what and how an inspection should occur.  The link is from a web site that Barry Brideau has put together and has been most helpful to many here concerning all things Foretravel  Barry and Darlene Brideau's Personal Website  If you haven't found this site yet I would highly suggest that you bookmark it and begin your reading/learning there.  This forum is a wealth of info.  I read just about every thread here before we purchased.

Good luck in your search.  If y'all are like us we couldn't get enough information and were so excited about our new adventure.

We domicile in Texas and spend Nov and Dec in the Houston area then travel meeting wonderful people and seeing wonderful places the rest of the year.  It's a wonderful life and a Foretravel is, in our opinion, the way to get us from one place to another in comfort and style. ;D

Regardless of the purchase situation, our absolute first choice for inspection would be Brett Wolfe (member here - wolfe10 is his forum ID).  Technical guru with Diesel RV Club and FMCA.  Knows his stuff.  Complement that with fluid analysis on the engine if there aren't complete maintenance records (and maybe if there are).

Many of us purchased Foretravels long before there was a tremendous resource like this forum. 
I know that Brenda and I personally traipsed though many RV shows, dealers and campgrounds trying to make meaningful comparisons between various brands and then models within brands.  We tried to talk with as many owners as possible as we were trying to decide.  We found that owner's inputs could be by far the most valuable.  Depending upon the quality of the information, it was research loaded with many ups and downs and false impressions, though.  Today's forums make reasearch a good deal easier, but face to face opportunities can still be the most informative.

If you are interested, you are about 105 miles from us via I-95 or about 125 miles if by I-495.  Come stay as long as you'd like and I'll tour you through as much of our 16 (+) years of wonderful experience with Foretravel (and our first and only Motorcoach) as you would like.

 Chris and Clara Moore offered to stop by on their way to Canada today. 
What a wonderful couple and they would make a grand addition to our Foretravel family -- they are already FoFum members (freedomrider) and they are rapidly becoming Foretravel enthusiasts.
They have a beautiful Dodge RAM/Airstream combination currently.               
I had a great time introducing them to many of the Foretravel wonders during our short time together.

Welcome, Chris and Clara! One other company you should know about in Nacogdoches (sometimes called Meccadoches by Foretravelers) is Xtreme Paint and Graphics. They know Foretravels inside and out. They have painted, fixed, and modified the fiberglass on many of them. They are my choice to repair those "self inflicted wounds" and other boo-boos that happen to the exteriors of Foretravel coaches.

You should know about them because they are the folk that could move the "hood ornament" from your RAM to your Foretravel.  I love the the hood ornament! ^.^d
