1996 U320, 12V air compressor location

Anybody know where the 12V auxiliary air compressor is located on this coach?  I haven't been able to locate it so far, and I never hear it run when on shore power.  The Tech at Foretravel did a quick look "in the usual places" while the unit was in the service bay last week and didn't locate it either.  Said he would have to pull the drawings for positive location since they mounted these in various places.  At $110 an hour, I decided I would chase it down myself.  The 96 does not appear to have a 120V aux compressor as my old U280 did.

What if you dump all the air in the bags with the engine stopped. Then use the manual controls to raise the coach. Maybe ab,e to find it by locating the sound?

You can find it when it is running easier I would think too.  ROland is right, dump the air and then air it up by lifting it on the level system that will cause the compressor to come on.

On my 295 it is above the house batteries in the driver's side fuel tank bin.

When I hear air hissing to relevel does that mean it was done by a compressor?

Or it was done to relevel by letting air out of one air bag and not by compressor?

Dumping the air would be the normal way to find it--- listen for it running, however, I believe that it is inop, that's why I'm looking for it.  As far as I can tell, it doesn't run.  I just purchased the coach and am still learning the ins and outs.

B. Letting air out.

Leveling system first tries to level by lowering the "high" side (or end).  You hear the air being released from the bags (actually 2 bags - it works in pairs).  If that doesn't work, it tries to raise the "low" side (end).  You will hear the compressor running - very distinctive sound, just like those air pumps you plug into your cigarette lighter to air up your tires.  That is why it should be easy for the OP to find his "hidden" pump, IF he can just get it to run.

My 12V compressor is in the compartment just above the house batteries.

Remove compartment cover above house batteries and look behind. Leave cover off, as it is not needed.

This is where mine is located; above the house batteries (I've enclosed my shunt/fuse area).

Many thanks!  I'm out of town until Friday, but will check when I get back.  I plan to add a 120V air compressor anyway, I really like the one on my old 280.
