Has anyone changed the brass metal framing in your shower to a nichol finish. And how did you do it?

Re: shower metal frame Reply #1 – August 16, 2014, 07:16:06 pm Traded a 99 U 320 with brass for an 03 U 320 with brushed chrome, just a couple hundred thousand. Quote Selected

Re: shower metal frame Reply #3 – August 16, 2014, 07:26:06 pm Actually it is very simple. The one in FT is a standard cross section so just go to a home decor store etc and find one that will be either same size or bigger and adjust the widths to fit, just reuse the glass panels. I have taken the showers completely apart and rebuilt it and it is no different than a home one. Just a bit of care if not having done this type of job before but VERY doable. You DO NOT need a David F priced guy for this one either. Quote Selected
Re: shower metal frame Reply #4 – August 16, 2014, 08:16:43 pm John thanks for the suggestion. I'm changing all the brass out. And the bath has the most. I'm fairly handy and I'm going to go for it. Quote Selected

Re: shower metal frame Reply #6 – August 16, 2014, 10:14:07 pm Carol these are simple removals and new type to fit old installation are available in stores. Just a case of looking for what fits.FT did not have these custom made for their coaches, you can bet on that. They most probably get a good amount of them from Plumbing Supply house in Nac, then install.JohnHps, Joe,just start at the top and remove all screws (after door off of course) you may find a couple screws in the base molding rusty after taking off sealant. I suggest using a carbide blade in chop saw for cuts and go slow with that. Make all pieces the same size as old ones and then re-install, simple. You may even find a shower unit at HDepot or? that is same size and cheaper than buying all the pieces. Quote Selected
Re: shower metal frame Reply #7 – August 16, 2014, 11:12:36 pm In our 2001 the shower enclosure is made by Alumax. Look them up on line. The three sided one is a 794 series Stikstall enclosure. They don't sell to end users so you have to find a dealer and then get the parts from them. Brushed nickel is an option. You should be able to use the existing glass. It is on my list of things to do.Roger Quote Selected

Re: shower metal frame Reply #9 – August 17, 2014, 12:26:13 pm I just don't understand this thing so many have against brass. I like it. In my opinion, brass goes better with my walnut interior than chrome or stainless. Stainless is more industrial. If I wanted that look, i would have a Prevost with a black and chrome, marble and Formica interior.I guess I'm old school. Quote Selected

Except, for some reason, in the pictures of FT interiors I've seen. I don't know if it is the walnut or what it is, but the brass does seem to fit better and not look as dated in an FT interior as it does in the interiors of SOB. Not sure why that is, but it does seem to be the case. FT is probably the only older coach I would consider leaving the brass fixtures in. Quote Selected
Re: shower metal frame Reply #11 – August 17, 2014, 01:23:23 pm We are old school, and think of our two Foretravels as fine yachts. The rich oiled walnut looks much like the varnished teak in the boats we have enjoyed in the past. Quote Selected

Re: shower metal frame Reply #16 – August 17, 2014, 03:12:49 pm Our brushed nickel knobs look nice with cherry. Lamps next. All of the brass ceiling lights have been replaced with glass LEDs. Very nice. If you like what you have, keep it. The rich interiors of our Foretravels is quite special. Not too keen on the cold, hard laminate, stone and tile look of some of the new coaches. But then I am a wood guy.Roger Quote Selected
Re: shower metal frame Reply #17 – August 17, 2014, 04:14:26 pm Mike the link you have given I looked at and my comment is "this guy is cheap, as he tried to fix a faucet that most probably cost $40 to replace and be new" To me the job on shower is bad. If I wanted to go that way it is best to dismantle and do each piece properly, the put back together. 2 days work and he took weeks doing the same thing. Half ar-- job to me! Put a new one in or replace the metal frame and do it right.JohnH Quote Selected
