Unknown Dash Switch

Howdy!

I have looked for a description of this switch without success. It is pictured with other dash switches on pages 4-4 and 4-6 of the Foretravel Owners Manual. Unfortunately the description of the switches is not tied to the pictures.

Would SKS please tell me what it controls and what the two positions do?

Thanks,

Unlabled!

My guess is added by an earlier owner, could be anything.  Might need to follow the wires.  One possibility is its selects which batty powers the radio.

Trent,

On my coach, this switch controls the rear camera view.

Bob,

That makes sense; one of the options the original owner paid extra for was a 2-position backup camera. I suspect that may have been standard on the U320 and an option on the U295.

The two switches directly above it also deal with the monitor (on-off) and a 3-position switch that shows the tank levels and voltage in the forward position and the compass/temperature in the third position.

The center position of that switch shows nothing -- no camera view. Changing the apparent camera view switch does not change the blank view either.

For those of you with working cameras, do you have to hold your tongue a certain way to see the camera view? Does the transmission have to be in reverse? The monitor itself is apparently working; any suggestions?

Thanks,

Trent,

The old B/W camera on my coach would physically pivot move up and down inside the aluminum housing to change the view. If I looked very closely I could see it move in the housing from outside. Of course, if yours is not working ....

The view out of the old B/W camera was less than desirable. I replaced it and the monitor with color units last year. The stuff is very inexpensive. I replaced both for $56.

I have the same issue with the camera on my 96' U320--- the middle position on the switch is supposed to be the camera position.  It works when it wants to, but most of the time it doesn't .  I changed the switch, no improvement

Bob,

Did your replacement monitor fit into the same location? Were you able to use the existing wiring?  Did the new camera mount in the same location?

Trent, on our 295 same year the PO put in a Viewsonic colour camera and monitor. The camera can look down at hitch or up over top of car. Centre switch position pours a glass of wine. I cannot remember what that one does but am sure it does something. I will look later.

I don't have this particular switch and with my U320 being a 95' I would like to see an example of how the OE CRT has been replaced keeping the 5" viewing port, since I'm not being able to make cuts or drill any holes to the dash.

So far, I am headed toward a plywood frame glued or Velcro'd into place and a 7" TFT attached by the same method.
The 7" TFT seems to be the largest monitor that will fit without being a problem.

Many of us have Velcro's a new monitor to the dash with no frame necessary.

That is the way our 7" one is mounted too, works fine. It does cover the 12v outlet but that wire is run under dash to a 3 plug outlet that I have mounted to a piece of walnut and that is screwed to top of dash by windscreen centre divider so no loss of it because of this monitor mount.

Trent,

I use foam mounting tape to mount both the camera and the 7" monitor. I took the easy way out and left the OEM units in place, since they still function. I also reused the OEM camera wiring and the Javalina Audit System.
