Slide air seal problem fixed with $16 "Y-adapter"
Although I have mentioned this in other threads, I believe this deserves it's own thread.
A while ago, the living room slide in my 2003 coach started having trouble moving. It went through all the motions correctly, lights and pumps doing their thing, but when the slide started to move it was slow. This got progressively worse, going from slow to stop and start to mostly stop to completely stop over the course of a couple of months. At the end, I had to cycle the key again and again to move the slide a quarter of an inch at a time.
I called FOT, and was told it was most likely the air seal (bladder), either out of position or leaking.
I took it to Temecula Valley RV Service in Murietta California. They are a warranty service center for Foretravel, and FOT told me that was the best place to take it, possibly the only place with experience with these slides in southern California.
The technician got on the phone with HWH, tried a few things, answered some questions, and was told it needed a Y-adapter. This $16.15 part (part number AP21013) solved the problem.
Apparently it changes the way things are done. Instead of the air pump pumping air and the vacuum generator generating vacuum to deflate the air seal until the seal is deflated, and then stopping and hoping for the best, it now keeps on pumping for as long as the slide key is on.
Hopefully this information can save other ForForum members from grief and expensive bladder replacement. I'd also like to hear more about just what this part actually does and how it works.
