New ARP Member

Our stock absorption frig is working great so we're keepin' it. Anyhow, mindful of the fire potential of these old units, I installed the ARP fire protection system. The hardest part of the job was getting the darn sheet metal stack open to install the temperature sensors. That part of the job should take 30 seconds; I spent an hour! Anyhow, the ARP is supposed to be an excellent product so now we feel more secure.

Re the ARP company, www.arprv.com, their customer service is great. I fried a diode (could have sworn I had those wires on there properly!) and ARP's owner, Paul, fixed it from me for free. Didn't even charge shipping.

Excellent!  We all can sleep better now.

Next thing to do is get a halon fire suppression system to mount behind the refrigerator (the ARP unit is great, but not quite a sure thing) and a handheld extinguisher to keep in the bedroom.  And make sure you can use the bedroom windows as fire exits.

Unless we can find a residential fridge that will fit, we'll probably do that ARP and the Halon route as a temporary safety precaution. Sooner or later one of the refrigerator manufacturers will come up with something that won't require an extra battery.
