Check engine light

Returning to Houston from Lake Charles, the check engine light illuminated and the warning bell dinged.  All the temperatures were normal.  We pulled over and shut down. I opened the engine hatch and looked to see if there was anything obvious wrong.  No water in the fuel indicated but I did try to purge the filter to see if possible there was air in the system. Restarted the engine and no check engine light.  Returned to Houston without further problem.  Anything I need to check?

Do you have VMSpc? If so, the diagnostics menu option should tell you what caused the CE light...

Yes and no.  I have it connected to 1996 coach but have not moved it yet.  I do not know if 2005 and 1996 use same connector.

Actually Don I had a check engine light on way back early this year from Mexico for about 1 1/2 days and could not find any mention on VMS. Id did not come on for the last day of driving and I thought maybe it was fuel filters but after removing them just recently and looking they seemed clean. We will see next trip soon.

I have had check the check engine light three or four times (two different causes) so far, and both were shown by VMSpc by number and some text to indicate which system was affected. Intake manifold temperature, and lift pump: unknown failure. The manifold temperature went away on its own while driven in a few minutes, after coming on within 10 or 15 minutes of starting out, but the lift pump CE light came on right at start up. I had to disconnect the chassis battery to reset it.  I theorize that the chassis battery was low on charge and the lift pump was struggling to keep up. My boost switch is intermittent, but works most of the time... ::) I have two with me, just have to open the bed and change it!

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think anything after 1987 on a diesel pusher will use the same plug.  I've been shopping, and that is what everything I have looked at says.  Mine is a 1996 U320 like your old one.

So which ones use the six pin and which ones use the 9 pin connector?

I haven't gotten that far with my research, not sure.

Our 99' ISC (the electronic version of the 8.3L) uses the 9 pin connector, though I believe that there are only 4 pins in the connector that are populated...

I am pretty sure my 96 was a six pin.  I will check on the 2005 tomorrow.

My understanding is that the earlier coaches (such as our 1995) use the six pin and the newer ones use the nine pin. I don't know in which year the change occurred.

Finally able to check connector on my 2005 coach and it is a 9 pin. Guess I need to order a new cable
