Is it a slide room bell?

Over the weekend getting ready to head home from Rv place, then this happened ---retracted slide room, slide room light out,  then "check engine light" is on in the dash and bell is ringing.  Extended slide room and then retracted , felt pins engage, then was able to get into gear and GO. the "check engine light " remained on and bell continued to ring all the way home. Stopped for fuel , started off again and the "light " was off , no bell. When I stopped to unhook Toad and started again ,bell is ringing and" Check Engine  light " goes on again.  Is it the slide room not completely engaging shut or ??? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Generally, no.  If the slide was giving your trouble you should see a "Level System" light and the ding.  With a Check Engine Light you most likely have something going on with your coach engine.

Without having VMSpc, you will need to pull the codes for the Check Engine Light using the switches behind the dash.

While your engine is prior to the build date on the following page, the instructions for pulling the CEL code(s) are probably the same.  Once you have the codes post back and folks can help further with the diagnosis.

Thanks for the reply. My coach is a 2002 U320. I recently had some work done on my one slide room, so I don't think that is my problem. I'll check those engine codes next week. I 'm wondering if dead chassis batteries would produce the "check Engine" light. I've been having a problem with keeping them charged. House batteries are fine. All batteries were replaced 21/2 yrs. ago. Chassis Batteries won't hold a charge.  Anyway thanks for the info.

Ralph,

What does your dash gauge report as chassis voltage with the engine running?  If the voltage drops too low (quite possibly from a bad alternator or other charging system issue) both your engine and transmission ECM's will be quite unhappy and you will definitely get a Check Engine Light.

Yes, that will cause issues. Check alternator output, and get dedicated chassis charger like battery minder 1500 (assume you store plugged in) or solar

We had that problem when our batteries were low ( and we did not know it was the battery at that time).  The check engine light would come on and the bell would ding. We could drive for a while and stop, turn off engine and restart and everything was fine. We replaced our batteries on the last trip home and have not had any problems since, so we figured it was the batteries.

My batteries are only two years old and should hold a charge, however, I'm installing  an Ultra Trik-l starter, which I know some of the Forum guys have done. I'm having the alternator checked also. I do think the 'Check Engine " light is due too low voltage. Anyway thanks for the info. Motorhomes are so much fun!!

On our last trip check engine light came on and bell started ringing, volt gauge on dash was at 12.  Fired up generator and turned on boost switch, volt gauge went to 13.5 and bell stopped and check engine light went out in less than a minute.  Thought it was alternator, found two cable connections on isolator were loose.  Now getting a reading of 13.1 volts believe it should be more around 13.5, will be checking all connections.

Learned the generator/boost switch trick on the forum.  Was a life saver, this all happened while going through downtown Nashville, no way to pull over.

This really shows one of the great benefits of the VMSpc...to really know exactly why the Check Engine light is coming on.  Best money I have put into the coach!

The generator/booster switch is great to know. What is a" VMspc." I know I need one.
