Air step question

While in Minneapolis to help our youngest daughter out, my eldest son and his sister replaced the rotten step AND added diamond plate on the repaired step to provide continuous temporary steps to the ground.

Unfortunately, the coach is listing gto the right and the aux air compressor is not working. Right now the electric/air step is out/open.

I assume I can leave the entry door open and start the engine without the electric/air step changing position. Correct?

I'd also appreciate any hints on what I might look at in the electric air compressor. First of all, where is it?

The aux compressor is behind the inverter.  The step will not move when you start the engine if you keep the entry door open.
