Generator coolant valves

Our coach has the valves pictured here but the handles have always been in the horizontal position.  There is no sticker saying which way they should be.

On our kids coach the valves are in the vertical position with a sticker that says they should be vertical (which appears to be the closed position) anytime the generator is in operation.

Ours is a 2002 U320 and theirs is a 2003 U320.

Our generator runs fine but they can't keep theirs running.

Info on bleeding air out of coolant systems in 2002 and newer coaches with Powertech's says they should be closed (vertical) during normal operation, but I don't have any further info.

Rick, on our 2003 U320, the ball valves are in the closed position for operation. Never had a problem with generator not running.
 It's possible that there might be air in their system and not letting generator run.
 Just a thought.

I knew someone would have the answer.  I believe it must be air in the system keeping their generator from running.  MY son-in-law has ruled out about everything else.

I guess I will close the valves on mine.  I can't see where the other end of the small hoses go.  Would they just allow some coolant to bypass the radiator if they are open?

What wonderful machines...what a great forum.

If air is in the system, eng will get hot and shut down.
