Question on Diesel Additive

Hi folks,

When we purchased our Nimbus from MOT, they supplied us with a 16 oz container of Schaeffer's 285 Fuel Shock additive. We use this on each fillup to manage any algae buildup.

Would like to know if anyone has a recommended source for resupply or if other options might be recommended.

Thanks.

Don,

A biocide is a very good idea if storing the coach.  But, unless you have a known issue with algae/fungus, it is not necessary to add to each tank. My basic rule is if storing diesel over two months in the summer or three months in the winter, it gets a biocide.  Certainly, if black precipitate or black slime is found in the primary fuel filter, a kill dose is needed immediately.

A commonly available biocide (virtually all marine stores such as West Marine, Academy, etc) is Biobor JF.

Also, when storing, make sure the tank is completely full to minimize condensation.  These "bugs" ONLY grow at a water/diesel interface.  No water, no bugs.
