155 miles in 8 hours

Left Ruidoso 8 hours ago.  Finally made it to Carlsbad. First the the road was closed east of Ruidoso for 3.5 hours for black ice. When they finally let us go at our own risk, there was no ice to be found. North of Carlsbad US285 goes around a lake.  Road became solid ice. Last 30 miles at below 30mph.

At least you had a bathroom with you.  The majority of the other motorists weren't so well-prepared ;)

On 12/21, we took a direct flight from Houston to Aspen at 9:00 a.m.  Were supposed to land at 10:50 a.m., but plane couldn't land due to weather and we were diverted to Denver - where they put us on a charter bus.  I-70 was a nightmare (cars sliding off the road, trucks stopped everywhere, Vail Pass was especially fun); I think we averaged about 15 mph.  Got to Aspen at 11:30 p.m. - after a 9-hour bus ride. 

So, Steve, I empathize with you!  Except you didn't have to share your coach (or head) with 40 other people.

Having the bathroom is nice and so is the food.  While we were waiting the truckers were talking about how it was going to be crackers and Slim Jims for dinner.  I didn't have the heart to tell them I was deciding between burgers or steak for dinner.

Finally made it to I10. 30 miles an hour for most of the trip from Carlsbad to Fort Stockton. Saw more vehicles with the shiny side down than ever before. East of Fort Stockton there was an 18 wheeler on its side facing the wrong way on the Westbound I10. Stopped at the rest area to take a break and there was a loud thud.  Thought someone barely hit the coach or the toad. Got up and checked and it was huge hunks of ice falling off. Wheels have grown 3" spikes on the lugnuts.
