Remodel Entry Steps

All,
Looking at a IH, but the distance/height between steps is creating stress on my wife's knees. I have been told that that the entry step box can be remodeled by adding an additional step which will reduce the height/distance between steps. My concern is how this box would be fasten into the interior so that it will not become unstable in the future. This seems like a potential problem/headache for the future.  Any and all thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks,
Reese

more treads and shorter risers = longer run.
Geometry is what is it.
The floor of most modern coaches is SO HIGH!  With humungous storage bays comes lofty living space.  I think my '92 Barth Breakaway floor must have been a foot lower than my '99 U295.  That was despite the Barth floor sitting atop a Spartan chassis.
