Water Pump Leak

Hello!

After having quite a bit of servicing on our U320, SSS, the tech noticed the water pump leaking a few drops while the engine was cold.

The tech added a small amount of coolant.

It was not leaking once the engine was warm.

What do you recommend?

Paul,

Replace it at your first convenient opportunity.  Pump seals can leak  slowly for a long time, or completely blow out with serious coolant loss.  Not worth gambling on.

Replace seal? Or pump?

Paul,

Sorry, I have not worked on the M engine water pump-- but a good question for a Cummins guy/dealer.  And, it may be that you will need to disassemble it to determine whether it is just a seal or whether wear suggests a new pump or pump parts.
