New starter install 3208T CAT

Well after 26 years of reliable service the starter became unreliable.  Not bad huh? So I ordered a new starter off Amazon for my 3208T CAT. Other than this thing weighing about 75 lbs it was pretty straight forward and we replaced it within about an hour.

Two main thing to note: First the top mounting volt to the starter is VERY hard to get to and must be done by feel as it is above and next to the engine block.  We used 2 long extensions on the 3/4 drive socket to reach it. Second, you may have to turn the mounting plate on the new starter (we did). The 3208 is a very commons marine engine and the starter has a right side and left side mount.  Ours needed to be turned. No big deal just loosen the Allen bolts and turn the mounting plate to match the old starter.

Don't forget to unplug and disconnect the positive battery cable to prevent arking.

Removing the negative cable is the best as it is safer
