Splendide bites the dust

Our Splendide 2000 is dead!!  Timing is everything- next week we have an appointment at MOT, so guess what is being added to the list.  Yep- Splendide 2100xc. 

Karen is excited after reading the good posts from others here who have already upgraded.

If anyone will be in NAC on 4/13- say Hi.

@Ted Sorry for the untimely death of your Splendide. You might want to call Splendide support 1-800-356-0766 #5 (503-656-2280) and see if they can help. They are very good. The Splendide is very easy to work on. Almost everything is accessible by removing the top. I had to remove a shelf over the unit, remove 2 screws on the rear upper right & left, and then slide the top about an inch towards the back. Once the top is off all the important stuff is right there. When I called about my 22 year old Splendide the tech pinpointed the defective part right away and we only upgraded to the 2100xc because the part (dryer fan motor) was no longer available but they did still have parts for the next newer model. I believe our unit was the very first model they made.

You can also save some bucks if you self install (depending on your setup). The unit is pretty heavy but by removing the top you expose 2 large cement blocks that can be removed to lighten the load considerably. Once the unit is in place just reinstall the blocks, button up the top, install the water hoses, connect the dryer vent, plugin in and you're ready to go. The one gotcha is the dryer vent. It can sometimes be a PIA.

Having said the that we do love our new Splendide 2100xc and I'm sure you will too.

Susan- we will check to see if you are still there next week.  Would love to see the remodel in person.  We will be in NAC for a little while as after MOT we are going to have new fuel lines put in at Bernd.s.

Ken-thanks for the ideas.  Being 150 lbs and that I have had back problems, the best answer for me is to have the guys at MOT do it.  They are younger, stronger, and have done enough of them that I am confident that it will be right when we leave. 
Our old one was getting so weak that Karen was afraid to do our big towels in it.  It is time for the new one.  As we all know, if momma is happy everyone is happy............... ;D

As I found out when I installed our 2100XC, it can be a very tight fit when considering the vent (which I would never do without... wouldn't even consider a ventless!) in the U270's with our floor plan. It is possible though, and I have seen some where they have added extensions that make the cabinet door protrude farther into the bathroom. There is a U270 that sold at MOT that shows pictures of what that looks like (attached). There isn't room to use the standard flex vent to get the vent past the horizontal frame member that is in the perfect location to mess up a quick and clean installation, and I don't think living with a crushed and or kinked dryer vent is the way to Splendide nirvana. I bought a couple of different "periscopes from Lowes and Home Depot and ended up "remanufacturing" them which also involved another kind of plumbing part that I scabbed a rubber bushing out of. I did do a write of sorts, but I can imagine that MOT will likely want to do the cabinet extension. I was considering that option and it would have been easier for sure, but I include a link in case you are interested in ways to avoid the cabinet extension. I was happy that I managed to get it done without doing that because every square inch of floor space in our coaches is precious (at least to me ::) ), and because I wanted the vent to be as restriction free and as easy to clean as possible. Your coach may be different of course, not to mention your priorities, but I just thought I would include this option. Chuck Person, IIRC, came up with another way of doing it as well. It also depends on where your existing vent hole is of course...

Thanks for the ideas.  I did read your write up- a great job but one that I do not want to take on myself.  Kinda like the fuel lines, I will "supervise" the process and make sure it is working and satisfactory with the boss.  I did show Karen the pics of the extended cabinet and she said if that is what needs to be done, she is ok with it.  We will see what happens, but I am confident that we will be happy with the results (especially since I don't have to lug the heavy units in and out with the back troubles I have had in the past).

I was happy to see that you did not have any check engine or stop engine lights going off on your trip to FMCA rally.  Looks like you had a good time.

I would tell them ahead of time so you can make sure they have it in.

Yes, it does look like the stop engine light which would come on for a few seconds and disappear while going up hills was the result of the algae clogging the primary fuel filter. One c*rappy load of diesel at the Chevron on the way to the Paso Robles CA chapter rally was all it took to poison the well. The new Baldwin BF1329 and a kill shot of biocide and the Cummins seems happy. Good luck on your MOT refresh and say hi to Karen,

John-yes I have talked with MOT already- they have ordered it so it will be there when we get there.  Thanks for reminding me, sometimes we forget what we forgot............. :)

I'm scheduled to be at FOT on the 14th.  Fairly new to the Foretravel and first trip to Nacogdoches .  Looking forward to the trip.  Hopefully I'll be able to meet a couple of the forum members.
