high beam lights not working

Since leaving Nac last year and 8000 miles later, the high beam lights do no longer come on. They are of the conversion type with modifications to the low beam to be on with the ignition; a Canadian requirement. (done at MOT)

The switch for high beam mounted from the steering pedestal seems to work as the blue dash light, lights up upon pulling the switch. I would add that during the night drive, the voltage gauge dropped to straight up and down reading 12 volts when it is usually higher.  I was driving with low beam and aux. driving lights, attempting to find combinations of what might lead to the high beams working; to no avail. (I ran the generator just in case it was an alternator problem)

The next day the voltage gauge read normal as all else seemed to function. I did not try the high beam again. Tonight , now parked for awhile in Las vegas I thought I would give them a try but no success.

Is there a starting point such as a fuse or relay I may try to find first or something else?  Thanks very much, Tom.

There should be a high beam relay. The switch activates the relay and the relay handles the load. If you have access to your relays you could try and click the high low switch and find the one that is clicking..I would think high and low relays would be near each other. You could also have lost power to the high beam relay check fuses or circuit breakers.Being the blue indicator lights uo I would think the relay failed. If you can find it switch it with one that looks the same and see if they come on.

Also give MoT a call.  They will know what they did and where the relays are.  I have found them most helpful when I have spoken to them.

Really appreciate how the wiring is marked. Number "10" High Beam relay right there behind the step side panel. Ordered a new one. I'll have to modify it (plastic all around the prong side, must remove it).

Back at the farm I did some fiddling with the original Bosch relay. With the high beam on, I touched the connections to the relay. The activity sounded like a rattle snake and then clunk. I did that a few more times until there was just a clunk sound with a connection made.

Poof, the high beam goes off and on as normal.

So, I assume the relay was stuck and with a little exercise it now works as it should. Thank you for your thoughts, very much appreciated.  Tom
