Wiper motor

The passenger-side wiper motor died the other day, and I spent much of today trying to find a replacement. I'll call Foretravel tomorrow, but I wondered if anyone knew anything about the motor, specifically a manufacturer or at least who else uses it. There is a number on the motor case, but none of the three parts places here in Riverton were able to cross it with anything else.

Had issues with our wipers last trip. Drivers wiper would stop after a minute or so then passenger side would double time until driver side resumed . Rain X helped immensely, found some slight corrosion in wiring that seems to have been culprit. If this sounds at all familiar you might want to check under dash where switch meets wiring for both motors.

Shortly after we bought ours my drivers side went out.  I called FT and they got me in contact with their old manufacturer (I don't remember the name sorry) before getting to much into ordering something thru them I took out the motor and took it to my local auto electrician.  $25 later she was working great. He said he just cleaned and lubed it.

Thanks for the tip, Jeff. I'll check around tomorrow morning to see if anyone here can rebuild my old motor. If not I'll order if from Foretravel.

I tried the two companies that Stump and Gary mentioned. One of them flat-out said they couldn't help me. I haven't heard back from the other one yet. I'm guessing that means that they can't help, either.

Just one of the challenges of owning a 20+ year old classic coach.  When you find your solution, be sure to let us know.  One of my motors, which have worked fine up to now, will probably go out next time I use the wipers!

Sometimes an electric motor can be revitalized with thin oil run down the shaft while spinning motor.  Or by taking it apart and cleaning out any junk.  If gears involved, lubrication may help.

"Sometimes an electric motor can be revitalized with thin oil run down the shaft while spinning motor." I can't get the motor to turn at all, so I'm calling Foretravel this morning. In addition to the wiper motor, I also need the fiberglass ring that goes around the docking light.

Keep in mind,
that unless the wiper motor is actually burned up,
time spent cleaning it up will net good results.  pc

The motor smelled burned up. In fact, even after I took it off I had to leave it outside for a week because of the smell. I probably should have ordered one for the driver's side when I ordered the one for the passenger side, but then the driver's side motor would last forever.

Could be it failed do to dried up lubrication making it turn hard causing the motor to draw more current and generate more heat.
Might be a good time to clean and lubricate the other motor.

The total cost for the wiper motor, docking light ring, tax, postage, etc. was about $170.

Since I didn't know how long it would take for the docking light and wiper motor to ship I elected to have them sent to my S-I-L's house and she could bring them here if they arrived before they left for the wedding or we could get them when we're there next week for the family reunion. She called today to say the box arrived this morning, so maybe Monday I'll get to put them on the coach.
