Overhaul SeaLand 511 Marine/RV Toilet

So...This past week we also enjoyed the toilet that does not hold water at the ball seal while camping.  Everything checked out okay tbefore the trip, then...no more workie.  This is the original equipment toilet so it's time for an overhaul.

I read the write-up that Barry Leavitt has about the new SeaLand being a couple inches taller so replacement is not an option.  Overhaul is the way to go. I purchased the seals at the local RV supply (Holman Motors) and had to order the vacuum break (in on Tuesday next week).

Peter, thanks for the repair steps link.

By taking the ceramic bowl off the plastic base, you probably want to replace the half ball that seals against the new bowl seal you bought at Holman, as a scratch in it could cause a leak and it may be cruddy underneath.

Good idea to also replace vacuum break as it is easy to change with bowl off the base.

If you have the original toilet, it will be the Sealand model 500, but as I understand it, about 15 years ago Sealand changed the toilet a little (& causing the bowl to be a bit taller) and changed model to 511.

All 511 parts fit our 500 bowl, EXCEPT for the vacuum break.  This is because the 511 has a different type of hole where the vacuum break fits in.  This issue is not commonly known.

Only the Sealand vacuum break part number 385319055 fits my 500 bowl, and it comes with a new sprayer hose.  It seems the vacuum break without the hose is not available.

Also the two overflow holes inside the bowl have been a source of odors and the new bowls don't have the overflow holes, and the new bowl seals don't have the passage holes necessary to drain any water that gets into the overflow holes.

Sealand will send you plastic plugs to seal the bowl overflow holes closed.

You don't have to remove the plastic base to change the bowl seal, but if you every replace your plastic base, it will also not come with the overflow passages.

Good luck, Sealand Traveler is a great toilet, and we love the sprayer hose and use it for every flush.

Thanx Barry. I'll take the old vacuum break with me and see if it matches up with the one ordered from the store. We take off Friday so time is of the essence.

Barry, the part number for just the vacuum breaker WITH extension is 385230325

I bought one off ebay for $32. "Sealand Vacuum Breaker Kit part #385230325 w/extension"

Krush,  glad to hear the same part is available without the hose, but you can still connect your own hose.
