How does it work? Ice maker/instant hot/filtered water on a '93 U300 GV?

Hello all.

In the kitchen I have a Uline ice maker, instant hot and filtered water. Unless I am mistaken the filtered water can be routed to either the ice maker or the filtered water spigot on the counter but not both.

My ice maker is running and freezing but is not getting water. I can hear it trying to fill.  I am also not able to dispense water from either the instant hot or filtered water faucets when I depress the handles. 

The instant hot faucet is warm to the touch but no water comes out when the handle is depressed.

What am I doing wrong?

Edited to add: under the sink I only see one valve. When I turn it the opposite direction from where it was I seek no change in anything.

Under the sink of both our old 93, and the newer 98 I have a shut off valve to shut off water to the filter and then onto the ice maker and the filtered sink faucet.  I added another shut off to be able to just shut off the ice maker when the temps go below freezing to save the refer water valve assembly.

It is probably not good that the instant hot is warm to the touch, as it's tiny tank might be empty.

On the filter assembly is a swing up lever, up position shuts off the water so you can change the filter.  Down and the tip of the handle into the notch in the filter assembly top is the "open" position for water flow.

Jeff (not being chauvinistic - just assume he is the "mechanic"),

Welcome to the joy of "figuring out" how YOUR coach works.  Remember, these classic coaches have had many Masters, and each of them may have "customized" the unit to their liking.  Two identical model coaches may actually be quite different, when you start examining things like plumbing and electrical wiring.  Your job, with the help of experienced Forum members, is to solve the many mysteries you will encounter.  It is a big, wonderful puzzle, waiting for you to find the solution.

On OUR coach, there is a water filter in the cabinet below the sink.  See photo below.  The water line on the right (with the 90 degree fitting) is the INLET of the water filter.  This line comes off the COLD water supply line going to the sink faucet, and has a small valve on it.  The other fitting on the filter (on the left) has one line that goes straight up, plus a "T" with another line.  The vertical line goes to the "filtered water" dispenser on the sink above.  The "T" line goes to the inlet of the "hot water" dispenser, where there is another "T" with a line going to the ice maker.  That is how OUR coach is rigged - yours COULD be different.

I can suggest several possible causes for your problem.

You said you found one valve, and turning it does not produce any noticeable change.  That valve could be plugged up with sediment.  Remove it and check for blockage.  While it is disconnected, see if water flows through the supply line when pump is on.

The water filter:  there is a valve on the top of our filter.  In the photo, it is the blue lever just to the left of the outlet fitting.  This lever is lifted UP to shut off water flow through the filter housing when you change the filter.  (see link below for typical water filter operating instructions).  When this lever is DOWN (as it is in the photo), water flow is restored.  Check to see if someone left the lever on your filter unit in the UP (OFF) position.

The water filter could be plugged up, preventing flow.  Only solution: install a new filter.  Probably a good idea anyway.

If all these items check out OK, then you should have water flow to ice maker.  The "hot water" dispenser may or may not work, even when it does have a good water supply.  Ours does not work - I assume it is corroded and blocked internally.  I just unplugged it (to prevent accidentally turning it on) and will replace it, eventually, someday.  Not a high priority.  DO NOT turn yours on until proper water flow is restored - there is a small RISK of overheating/fire if it is activated when empty!

This is not rocket science.  Just look at what you've got, think it through, pursue the solution in a logical manner.  IT CAN BE FUN!

Thanks all, I forgot to mention that when I found the instant hot spigot was hot and was not dispensing water I got under the sink, found the plug and pulled it out of the outlet.

We have no use for instant hot water, and can use the microwave if we need hot water.

We already have a soap dispenser. I'd like to use the hole for a spray nozzle

I say if it works, keep it.
My instant hot water works on 12v. or 120v . I plug it in for 120v operation when ever we are settled in at a campground and plan to stay a few days. Its good for a quick cup of tea or instant coffee. The water is also filtered.

Last spring I struggled under the sink for hours trying to figure out why I had no water to the ice maker in the fridge or the hot water dispenser or filtered water tap. I had left the old ( last seasons) water filter in so I could sanitize the water system with a water/bleach solution. I planed to install a new filter after I finished flushing the system with city water.
I finally installed the new filter and instantly had water to everything. I didn't think a filter could clog shut from just sitting, I was wrong.

If you change the filter and still no water to the appliances try disconnecting the hoses and turn on the pump, If you get water out of the hose you have a blockage maybe at a small valve. Calcium in the water after sitting can clog the small valves, even the shower head and faucet aerators.

When the filter is removed, no water will go to the ice maker or the filtered water faucet.  Mine was not there when I bought the coach and installing one led to a water leak behind the refrigerator.  So  I cut off the valve to the refrigerator under the sink and all is OK.
