Hydraulic tank dip stick

The round friction fit dip stick on the top of our large hydraulic tank does not 'lock' in place anymore.

Normally when we rotate the dip stick cap, it squeezes and expands the rubber ring sealing it inside the top port.

But now when we see the screw thread fully tightened and the rubber expanded it no longer expands enough to be tight. The cap stays in place but can be easily pulled up.

Anyone know where to replace the cap, rubber or any part?

No info on obtaining a new one, but as a stop gap, you could wrap the rubber portion with some self-fusing silicon tape (rescue tape, Tommy tape, etc.). I have used that to good effect before on loose dip sticks on cars etc.

Can you add a washer on either end of the rubber part? That will make the screw part squeeze more, maybe enough to make the runner part fit tighter.

This happened to my engine oil stopper. I took it to a truck repair shop's part department and they where able to match one up for it. I don't think they will have one that matches your hydraulic stopper but maybe they can match up the rubber part.

It's a fairly common tank used by cummins on over the road trucks or tractors. In their applications ions it houses a large oil filter. I believe you could find one at a big truck parts dept.

Mine does have a filter it the tank.

Correct. And, very likely THREE filters stacked on top of each other. It is a commonly used tank.

I think the link to DorianDrake catalog page for Sloan oil filler plugs may have the answer.

I can get the exact measurement expandable rubber plug, remove the rubber part and put it in our existing dip stick.

I will follow up later with how it works.
