wood finish

Kind of a new subject, although there may be other threads somewhere. Parati had asked me what I was using to refinish the cabinets in our bus, and I told him that I was using satin Varathane, but would check when I got to NAC to see what they use when they build them. I was not able to sneak back into production, but in the remodel shop they use Sherwin Williams ProMar Hi-Bild Lacquer sealer cut three to one with thinner. the product is B44 FT 4 clear 6401-44978.

if you are doing some rehab on your interiors it might be worth getting a pint and trying it on a small spot to see if it matches well enough for what you want to do.

Forrest has the Oak cabinets. When I remodeled for the TV cabinets I used a wood sanding sealer and Deft semi gloss. It matched the factory finish perfectly.

On the cabinet doors I have refinished already I found that for the bus even a satin was too much shine. After 4-5 coats I have finished up with a 1500 grit wet and dry to knock down the shine. (we have the oak too). While the factory finish looks great, for my money it seems that it does not hold up to the high wear areas as well as a poly will (just my opinion)

I finished the Deft with 0000 steel wool and finishing wax. A super finish.

Catalyzed laquers are very tough and durable.  Most wood kitchen cabinets are finished that way.  Cherry is challenging because it changes color over time.  If I use a poly it is the oil based wipe-on variety. Several coats of clear gloss followed by several more satin.  Reduce sheen with very fine steel wool or 3M abrasive pad.  Then bees wax for a soft low gloss glow.
