Removing Ceiling Fan

Has anyone removed their FOT installed ceiling fan? It is lovely in terms of quality, but it projects so far down into the bedroom it is a hazard when pulling on a T-shirt or making the bed.  Presumably, there are just the normal 120V wires to be capped — but we're wondering what, if anything, others have replaced the fan with?  In our last fixed-foundation home, we removed ceiling fans in three bedrooms and simply replaced them with standard-if-boring ceiling lights.  Other ideas?

Easy answer is not pulling on t-shirts or making the bed.................. ;)

It might be a 12v fan or 110v.  In my 2001 36' there is a PEX tube that runs throught the ceiling from the fan location to the top of the space where the small BR TV is located.  I got a roof plan for my coach from FOT which shows where all of the structure and wiring is located in the roof.  Pretty handy to have.  The fan should be a close ceiling monted fan.  Blades about 8" from the ceiling.  These are usually more effective running in reverse, pulling air up in the middle of the BR and down along the sides.  Try using it for a while longer, you will learn to avoid it. The fan is a great addition to comfort.

I added a ceiling fan as they work so well in keeping the bedroom cool.  It is a learning curve but you will not even be aware of it in a negative way after a bit of time with it.

Let me second the posts by Roger and John. I do not believe ceiling fans were ever OEM on Foretravels but sometime around 2000, 120vAC wiring did become standard, I think.  Nevertheless, I think this is one of the most useful upgrades that can be installed in a motorhome.  Ours runs almost all of the time that we are in the bedroom.
I have ducted AC and there are only 2 outlets in my bedroom. My DW has sleeping problems and the fan does cool quietly in the spring and fall and is a wonderful addition to the AC in the summer. We are neither very tall so another change we made was to lower the surface of the bed with a thinner mattress so that we can sit on the bed with our feet on the floor. This makes bed making more comfortable as well. As for putting on T shirts, I simply stand at the foot of the bed out of the fan's range.
Please give it a little more time before removing it.
No RV! Have hung up the keys.

I don't know if any were actually pre-wired, mine wasn't.  The PEX tubing is a conduit for the wires either 12v or 120v.  There was an outlet for the TV near where the conduit cones out in the TV cabinet so I used a 120v 42" fan.  If it is bigger than 42" then it will be a problem.

The only way to know for sure is to get a roof plan from FOT.

We are both 6' ish.  The fan is not an issue for us. It was one of the first things we did.

We fulltime in our coach, and I think a bedroom ceiling fan is a must.  Here's a link to my previous comments.

Thanks to all who have been kind enough to offer information and opinions!  Much appreciated.

Our fan is 120V (won't run if not connected to shore power, inverter is off, and coach on DC only). It's wonderful quiet and smooth. Haven't seen such a high quality fan, short of the one we installed in the sun room of a previous home. 

Getting a roof plan from FOT sounds like a wonderful idea.  Again, thanks to all.

Bedroom ceiling fans can also be a hazard when doing joint exercises.

Removing them can be as simple as protecting wire ends and covering the ceiling with matching material.  Also remove wire from circuit breaker and protect it.

We have an added corner shelf that has a 12" 3-speed desk fan that runs a lot.  And a 20" window fan to blow outside air across the bed.

We also use our ceiling fan almost constantly blowing up.  Heat or AC.  I am 6'1" and watch the fan blaces as I put on a T Shirt.  ;D

Always worried that fan would decapitate me. The fact that it runs on 120v makes it less useful for some.

Well, when the rotating fan might be an issue there is always the off switch or the chain. A 12v fan may have a quieter motor than some 120v fans and doesn't use inverter power but the selection is more limited.

We've continued trying the ceiling fan (blowing up, blowing down).  It's just not for us!

If anyone is coming to GrandVention and wants it — and has a replacement solution or the skill to remove/fix the hole in the ceiling — it's yours!

PM us with details?  Or if you have other thoughts about how to remove this and who might need it, let us know.  It's a gorgeous fan.  It just takes up too much headroom for the functionality it delivers (for us; understand others have a very different experience!).

The ceiling fan in our 99 42' came standard.  I do like it and have learned to avoid it.  It actually doesn't hurt that much when graze the blades.

There is no identifiable model information printed anywhere on it, even on the tops of the blades.
