Air dryer rebuild question

I'm rebuilding my Pure Air Plus. I'm using the Haldex upper and lower rebuild kits and replacing the Isolation valve.
When I took the dryer apart I did not notice any powder and no water or foreign particles inside the unit.
The dryer was functioning fine when I removed it.

Inside of the dryer I did notice mounds of what appear to be a grease similar to the grease supplied with the rebuild kits for applying to the O-rings. I did not read in the re-build instructions about using this grease any place other than to coat the O-rings.

I thought perhaps somebody had re-built the unit before me and caked the grease on the O-rings and it  ran and settled below the valves in a thick puddle.

Am I correct that grease should NOT be present anyplace except to lube the O-rings?
And if so, only a light coating?

Getting ready to tackle the exact same job on our pure air. When we did it on the last coach we took care to only use enough for light coat on individual O rings.

I did mine last weekend and no grease was present....so you are correct just the o rings. Did you get your rebuild kit from NAPA?

No not NAPA. I think I bought the Haldex kits from 2 different online sellers. I placed the order for one kit then realized later that 2 kits were needed for a complete rebuild.
