94 U280 GV toilet removal

I have a broken vacuum breaker on the toilet in my Grand Villa. I removed the 4 bolts holding the toilet down to get to the vacuum breaker on the back of the toilet.  As I removed the bolts I could hear the nuts dropping off in to the box that elevates the toilet one by one. So do I have to rip the carpet off and take the front off of the box to remount the toilet? Seems like a bad design. Am I missing something?

Some of the replacement base gasket kits come with new hardware. May also be able to find a substitute in a box store plumbing section.

Also, is this a nut, or a stud that slips into a recess and onto which you thread a nut to hold the toilet in place.

Does your risor box have a heat vent on the side of it? If so take out the screws and pull it out disconnect the duct and push it in box reach in put nuts on pull duct out and reattach to vent.

No Brett. It is a hex head bolt with a nut ...and I assume a washer, underneath the flange. The nuts are is inside the carpeted box. When I look at the installation instruction online they show 4 traditional style toilet bolts that fit into slots in the flange with the nut on top. Mine is not installed that way, FOT must have been out of toilet bolts that day so they improvised. I will look and see it a regular toilet  bolt will fit into the flange.

Doesn't seem like doing it correctly would have been that hard.

I kind of like the idea of going thru the box to mount the toilet. It should be sturdy compared to just mounted to the flange which give a little.

Karl,

We had a similar set up on the '92 that we had. IIRC there are 4 square headed screws hidden in the carpet on the front of the box.  If you remove these screws then the carpet would act as a hinge and the front panel would lift up. Give a real good look around on the corners as ours were almost impossible to find.

Karl, am I missing something here? Why bother to look for them just get 4 new ones and leave the others in box as they will not hurt anything.
Saves taking apart the box or?

Just finished replacing our toilet flange seal between the floor and toilet.  95 U280.

It's possible that Fortravel did it right and the PO had to improvise a fix or ?

Ours had the 4 bolt flange and I was able to just replace the bolts and move on. I suppose if you wanted more strength you would bolt through the flange AND through the floor. That would be holding your toilet to the floor directly instead of bolting to the flange which is just screwed to the floor.

Just a pita to have to reach through the access hole and hold the nuts while someone else would have to turn the bolts topside.

I would still have to get into the box to put the new ones on unless I can make standard toilet bolts work.
