Auto Insurance Quotes

Good afternoon!

Time for the annual "shop for the least expensive insurance" game.  Have any of you gone through the process of late? Hopefully you can help me cut the corner on this one.  Progressive is the current leader in the club house, have checked with Allstate and Geico as well.

Thanks in advance.

Auto - as in car, or are you asking about the coach?

Keep in mind that insurance pricing is entirely state and locality dependent.  To get any useful info what insurance market are you in?  (e.g. DFW Metro, central NY, rural northern WI, etc.)

If the coach, there is some previous very useful discussion here on the forum Insurance

If for the coach, ask Miller RV Insurance and Overland (Ron Jarvie) for quotes as well.  These independent brokers specialize in RV insurance

We have been very happy with Ameriprize purchased through Costco.
We have our home, cars (3) and Foretravel insured with them.

I have had State Farm for many years.  I was thinking about shopping around but they came through for me when I had storm related engine damage.  Saved me way north of $20K.  It pays to have a long time relationship with your agent and the company. You are not going to have that changing every year based on lowest price.

X2 on USAA.  I've been with them since 1968 - all our cars, home-owner's, and life insurance + banking.  They have never let me down!

For our coach, went with Overland.  USAA (in TX) just sub-contracts RV policies to Progressive.

Thanks for the responses so far.................Michelle, asking about the coach.  Have auto through Geico.  Located outside of Houston, Texas.

Thanks again.

Roger and Susan, I had the same philosophy for 25 years with a company and agent, same agency that my father had been with for 20 years prior.  Two years ago, I shopped around on the auto policy and was absolutely getting hammered by the company that I had been loyal to for so many years...............in my opinion, gone are the days of loyalty in the insurance business.  Rates change too often in certain areas.  Hopefully that is not the case with State Farm.

Take care and safe travels!

My sister is an insurance broker and told me ALL insurance companies are bandits, and, at our age, will cancel with no notice. So much for having the same company for fifty years!  >:D  She said, "One strike and you're out". Sad.

HI Kevin,
We shopped around for RV insurance. I did not go with the lowest price. I went with the company that would provide me with another ForeTravel comparable to mine in value. I know its hard to value an older RV (NADA, RV Traders etc. are helpful).  I made it clear to my agent what I was looking for in terms of quality and workmanship. I even made her, a former insurance adjuster, compare mine to a new model sold at my local Camping World in terms of frame sturcture, finishes, cabinetry, engine, generators, AC units, HWH, leathers inside, mattress, etc. I wanted full replacement value just like I have for my home. She could not believe that "Our V" was a 2006! Ask exactly what your coverage is and what you need to prove it's value. I'm just saying...

My lawyer gave me some good advice regarding insurance claims, I was making one after a person, intoxicated on something, veered off the road, through the fence, and completely through a reinforced concrete cottage I owned, narrowly missing the resident inside.

When I filed the engine rebuild claim SF was going to total the coach until they took a look at what FTs were actually worth and then paid the claim.  Make sure your insurance people know exactly what you have.

Always keep in mind that the agent isn't yours but the company's and will do what's best for the company first of all. If you end up with  good deal when the dust settles then all well and good. If not well he's not your agent.

Probably a different thread - Re: Value - We had ours appraised by an independent company whose appraisal was accepted by the insurance company.  Insured for actual value.  We use Overland too.  No claims yet.  :D

Gary B guided us to a Progressive office in the Portland Oregon area. For the time being we asked for just under what we paid for it. Thinking being well reach certain bench marks with a second piece of property (barnominium) for the RV then up insurance to reflect remodeled value in a year or two. Risk a catastrophic total event in the meantime . I have always struggled with not wanting an ounce more insurance than absolutely necessary , especially with my business work comp😭
