Replace Brass Shower Fixtures

Although Susan & I would prefer pewter or stainless throughout our 1999 U320, we recognize brass/gold was the color of the 1990s. So, we're happy enough to stay with that — as long as everything looks good.

The fixtures in our shower do not. Is there a source for the brass/gold-colored towel rod in the shower, as well as the bar the showerhead slides up and down on?

In addition, has anyone found a (brass/gold) showerhead that provides better coverage and (the feeling of) more pressure? We're read postings elsewhere about Oxygenics showerheads in coaches. Thoughts?

You might try FOT. I looked at Lowes and Home Depot for a replacement soap dish and then found it at FOT for under $10.

WE often think about changing out the brass color and then rethink it. We did add an Oxygenics show head and would do it again even if it were bright purple. Second best think we've done to the coach!

We replaced all of our brass in the bathroom and shower, was showing its age. We went to Lowes and bought Moen and have been very pleased with the results.

Richard, have a look at my coach next week before you decide. The PO removed all of the brass/gold hardware on the coach and had it powder coated. It has a brushed bronze finish.

Jeff & Sandy--The look is just great! I like the crisp appearance and contemporary styling. I've been replacing polished brass with the replacement parts mentioned earlier, with some nostalgic success. I am considering re-growing a mullet, too. I like your results.

Jeff & Sandy, your shower surround looks great. How is it holding up?

All of the parts for the shower enclosure are available in a bushed nickel/chrome finish. If you are careful the glass can be reused. You can get new glass gaskets as well. This in on my list. The shower surround nd couple light fixtures are all we have left to transform from brass to brushed nickel.

Thanks for the ideas and pointers to products, everyone. Now a question: how do you get the shower bar off the shower wall?

The towel racks, ring hook beside the sink, and double-hook inside the 1/2 closet above the washer/dryer have been easy (set screw in the bottom). But I'm mystified by the shower bar and don't want to just begin pulling on things to see if it will come off.

We love the Oxygenics shower head we purchased, but I don't see any way to install it on the current bar. So we're thinking about taking the bar off, plugging whatever must be plugged, and then installing the Oxygenics show head/handle holder.

Hi Roger, I'm sorry I missed this post until now. Everything still looks brand new. When the PO had everything powder coated it appears that he replaced all of the gaskets with new.

We've been using the Oxygenics a couple of weeks now: you're right. We wouldn't care if it's purple.

So, the question again for anyone who has replaced or taken the brass/gold showerhead bar out of their shower — how do you get it off? The towel rack in the shower enclosure is easy (set screws in the bottom of each end of the decorative bezels/bases).

What's the secret on the bar that the showerhead (used to) slide up and down on?

I got ours off so it couldn't have been that hard. Two screws top and bottom under the brass end covers. I used the top holes for the Oxygenics hand held holder. I pur a screw with silicons back in one of the lower holes and a 3/4" plastic cable clamp and a screw with silicone to manage the longer than needed Oxygenics hose. I'll try to add a picture later. I have all the parts at home but I am not there so that isn't much help.

I made the mistake of trying to use the two-sided tape Oxygenics provides, but it did not last through the night. Screws work fine.

Has anyone found a replacement drain cover , mine looks pretty shabby, it has SA. 03410. 2550 mm stamped on it but unable to find a replacement.

It is the top holes I am concerned about. You said you used them to mount your holder.

On mine, the two holes were horizontal. The two holes on the holder are horizontal. How did you use the two horizontal holes to mount the two vertical screws?

Your picture shows that the two bottom holes were definitely horizontal.

The top picture only shows one screw; I think the second is under the ball joint, but am not sure. Do you remember how you did the top?

P.S. My Oxygenics 2-sided tape did not last over night. I reattached the holder with some of that metallic duct tape and it held up for our week-long trip in August. Now that we did not have the AC running for a couple of months, it has also released. I need to use screws, but am concerned about their use in the Corian sides.

I used one of the original holes at the top, sealed up the other hole and added a third hole above. Drill,an appropriately sized pilot hole. Don't over drive the screw and strip it out. Stainless steel screws. Silicone sealant. Bottom holes, SS screw and silicone. i used a plastic cable clamp to help manage the hose which is longer than you need. Shorter ones are available.
