Wet bay Faucet replacement

Shortly after we purchased our coach I noticed the wet bay faucet was leaking.  I found the Chicago Faucet PN and replaced the cartridges - still seaking so I capped the lines and decided last week that I was going to fight this battle.  As most FTs have a Moen faucet some with a vacuum breaker on the spout I decided that that is what I wanted.  The faucet that FT installs is the Moen 8121 and then a spout must be purchased.

I purchased an 8121 from Amazon at a decent price and went to install it.  Bada bing bada boom.  During reconnection I found that there is no way to attach the connectors to the panel.  Hmmmm.  After many trips to Ace I found a 1-1/2" nipple with a hex head in the center that works in conjunction with a large washer between the hex head and the panel.  When you screw on the connector the escutcheon tightens and makes the connection solid.  Yea.  Got everything put pack together and went to close the bay door and it would not close completely.  The faucet hits the door lock/unlock actuator preventing it from closing.  ???

Contacted Moen to see if they have a connector that is shorter by about 1 to 2" - they don't.

I called Mr. Trianna and he verified the Moen faucet PN and I explained that the door lock/unlock actuator position does not allow the bay door to close.  I could hear him scratching his head trying to visualize our wet bay panel configuration.  Any way he did take the time to check with parts and verify the length of the connector and that it would not fit and suggested that I might relocate the lock/unlock actuator.

Through a pleading call to Chicago Faucet and a wonderful CSR who hadden't used her Fairy Dust that day, was able to secure me a couple of connector fittings.  These shorter connector fittings that I got from Chicago Faucet works with the Moen are not available for purchase.

To make a long story short I would suggest you use a Wall mount Chicago Faucet as their connectors are much shorter so they mount without too many issues.  Of course that is if your wet bay panel is designed so the bottom panel is closer to the door than the top panel.  If your top panel is closer to the bay door than the bottom you will probably be OK with the standard Moen 8121.

So now I have the Moen 8121 attached to the Chicago Faucet connectors connected to the panel and waiting for leaks to raise their ugly heads so I can do the whole thing over again.

PS - I was going to replace the coach water connectors attached to the pex tubing with Shark Bites but my ever important local ACE Hardware store only had one so I used the OEM ones.

I hope this story is over.  :D

(Yes I did purchase a complete Chicago Faucet and used the connectors from that one and will replace with the ones the Factory office is sending me and return the Chicago faucet to the plumbing supply house for full credit.  So far about $550 tied up in this escapade - will get $350 back from the plumbing supply house.)

ARGH.

Hi Scott,

I found a small stainless steel wire basket with suction cups that is for use in a kitchen or bathroom to hold a sponge or something like that.  About 4" wide, an inch and a half deep and about three inches tall. I took off the suction cups and screwed it on to the wall where it holds a small plastic pump bottle of hand soap.  Just the right size.  I can remove it to use it out if the bay. I can switch from lemon scented soap to grapefruit scented soap (or whatever seems to be most effective in the intended use).  The original soap dispenser was broken when we bought the coach.  This has proven to be a very functional replacement. No picture, sorry.

I like the faucet in the wet bay.  Most of the time when we stop after a driving day I will get some hot water in a bucket to debug the front end.  I thought about putting a hose with a sprayer on the end.  I like that idea for rinsing off the business end of the waste drain plumbing but that is such a small amount of the use that I didn't.

Perserverence pays off when problem solving especially when you can connect with someone who actually want to help.

Looks sort of what was there originally.  Maybe I don't use enough soap --16 oz would last me quite a while.  Especially considering how much surgery I am doing these days 😷.

Worked on a Habitat house today. My crew finishing the roof structure on a garage so that it can get shingled on Monday.  Mid 20's, windy, gusts 25-35 mph, snow flurries.  Dressed appropriately, pretty comfortable actually.  No blood, no surgery required.  My heated seats at max and the heat turned up felt great on the way home. But I miss project time on the coach when it gets cold.

We replaced our leaky faucet set with a new one  ... because the long spigot kept getting banged by the bay door and getting bent at the end, and then the thing would leak at the base. They were just too long, but needed to be to extend out of the bay area.  We promptly bent the new one after forgetting to move the thing all the back into the bay before closing the door again.  I came up with the bright idea to just cut the damn thing off with a hacksaw and slide a piece of clear, flexible tubing over the end. It tucks out of the way when closing the bay door ... can be directed anywhere we need it for rinsing things ... and cost about 75 cents.

FWIW,
I replaced the plastic portion of my soap dispenser.  Got it from FT.  This was about 2 years ago.  They probably still have replacements.  That was too easy.  Best of Travels.
