Atwood Air Command AC

There are Atwood Air Command AC units and Dometic Atwood Air Command AC units for sale.
I am interested in the in the Atwood Air Command (AAC).
Is the AAC unit for ducted and non-ducted systems?
Are the ducted and non-ducted systems accomodated by different interior ceiling units?

Atwood was bought out (absorbed) by Dometic.  Dometic is selling the remaining Atwood stock under their name.  The two units you mention above may, in fact, be identical.  Try comparing model numbers, or specs, to see if there is any difference (besides the name).

The non-ducted units (we have two) include a inside ceiling fixture that incorporates the directional outlets and a integral control panel.

The ducted unit (I have not actually seen one - just read about it) has a inside ceiling fixture that works with the existing ducts.  The control panel is a wired remote wall-mounted model.

I believe both models also include a wireless remote, but not sure about that.  Our non-ducted units both came with wireless remotes.

AFAIK the outside on-the-roof unit is common to both models.

We have been very happy with our Atwoods.  Temps here in Midland, TX are running near 100 every day.  Our coach sits in our driveway with no cover to protect it.  We are keeping a lot of food stored in the coach, and our residential fridge is fully stocked.  For that reason, I keep both A/C units running during the day, and they have no problem maintaining 70 degrees inside the coach.

I did call PPL. There seems to be some confusion as to ducted vs non-ducted.
Dometic's website states in the caption of a photo of the unit: Ducted plenum required.
In a bullet point it also says: Inside ducted or non-ducted plenum sold separately.

The 12 volt store could not answer the question.

I think the accomodation for ducted/non-ducted is handled by the appropriate plenum.
I will call Dometic Tech support on Monday.

Thank you

Tim

Maybe the Fore Forums members that purchased AAC unit can answer?

The 12 Volt Store web page clearly shows photos of the two different inside units.

I bought my 2 new units from the 12v store. The inside plenums are purchased extra, you choose ducted or non ducted. All they had left were the black ones, I think they look great up there. Mine have the heat pumps added.

Yes they do.
Some vendors are of the opinion that the non-ducted inside piece requires a non-ducted AC unit, and vice versa for the ducted unit. I think the language in Dometic's online advertising implies that.

I put into Atwood AC units last year. Well I did have trouble with thermostats and you could find that on our forums, in the end these units keep my coach quite cool. In the heat of the day I can usually just run one and it's tolerable. Running both of them and it's chilly. They do come with remotes. I put in a soft start for the Foreward one which can also run off of the inverter. Very nice units and for what I paid for him a bargain.

I purchased two ducted units from my12voltstore.com last September model 15028, they require the indoor control unit 15022, which may or may not be included in the advertised price, be sure to ask if not clear.  I recently had Nacogdoches Motorhome Service install the units. There was an issue with one of my units, defected right out of the box, once the thermostat was hooked up it immediately started flashing an E-4 code. Once powered up the unit never blew cold, the compressor came on however E-4 code indicates low on freon. These are sealed units, under warranty the fix is to return the unit for replacement, out of warranty there is a process for adding more refrigerant.  My12voltstore informed me that this model had been discontinued and they did not have any and would they would not be carrying the replacement model, they only offered the phone number to Dometic customer service. Due to Covid-19 you can only correspond with Dometic customer service via email, there response was take it to a Dometic authorized service center, ever tried to get an immediate appointment at an RV service center in May, not happening, especially when they ask why you don't take it back to the dealer who sold it to you, mention you bought it online and you probably won't get anything but a lecture, I did.  I made the costly decision to purchase another unit and have it installed while I was at NMS, Bruce was able to find Model 15033 which is the same except with black cover, this unit worked fine and I'm happy with the performance and especially the noise level, very quite. BTW I dropped off the defective unit at a Dometic service center with a 3 week lead time, they called and said they can't check to unit because it is ducted and they don't have the thermostat, the saga continues...

I hate to hear that. I've installed two ducted units on my coach & they are one of the two best upgrades I've done. The other is a SamSung residential refrigerator. The Atwood's are cold & much quieter than the old Dometics. Hopefully I will have years of trouble free service. No regrets.
