what is this?

Found this in one of the bays. PO did not know what it was, said it came with the coach when they bought it.

It is the tool to help you raise and lower the awnings, and to lock and unlock them on the side of your coach.

You use the complicated end to support the arms on the large awning to hook the end of the arm to the bracket on the coach.

The big awning dance took us a while to figure out.  We got a 12" folding stool from Amazon. With the awning extended and the bottom arms in the low position and the step stool a few few out from the coach I can take the upper arm and hook it into the upper connection without using the goofy end of the pole.  Putting the big awning out or back in is now simple and quick.  A couple pieces of 1-1/4" x 60" or so foam pipe insulation protects my head from running into the support arms.

If you are shorter than me (6'-1") they make a taller folding stool.  This stool has proven to be one of the best, most frequently used additions to the basement stuff.

Several years ago Jo Ann gave me a small step stool for my birthday. One of the best birthday gifts ever! Our main awning hooks at the top, so I usually use that step stool to let me more easily hook it up there. Then that same step stool is used to push the awning out to the final stop. Reverse to bring it in.

A step stool is an all purpose must have accessory.  The pipe insulation was cheape by far then the swim noodles but a nice color match would be nice.  Didn't see any maroon noodles.

I should also add that ZipDee now has a kit to move the pivot point of the latching arm to the top and the latch to the bottom.  I expect that you can then deploy the awning without a stepstool.

Yes, we had this upgrade added during our visit to ZipDee a couple of years ago. Great improvement!

Color matching is nice .... but neon green or bright orange will catch your eye and keep you from banging your noggin!!

"I should also add that ZipDee now has a kit to move the pivot point of the latching arm to the top and the latch to the bottom.  I expect that you can then deploy the awning without a stepstool." One of the other guys on our second Habitat Care-A-Vanners build had that done on his Country Coach. He liked it, and I'd like to have it done, but I suspect that the CFO might object.

"Color matching is nice .... but neon green or bright orange will catch your eye and keep you from banging your noggin!!" We have orange pool noodles just for that reason. They used to be bright orange, but now are just dull orange. One is starting to show signs of age, so I'll probably replace them when I see them for sale again.

I liked the black look, understated, simple.  I only had to run into those arms once.  Ouch! Learned my lesson
