I have been removing all my decals on my coach and have found that a heat gun and plastic razor blades have worked best. Your decals probable arn"t weathered near as bad as mine so take a heatgun and just warm up the area and the decals should just peel off with your fingernail

After removing the old numbers and adhesive, if the area is raised under the old numbers, sand the area with 1000 and then 2000 grit wet dry sandpaper used wet.

Then rubbing compound and then polishing compound.

I use a hair dryer. I like the volume of air the hair dryer moves vs the heat gun.  It least compared to the heat gun we have.  Numbers are easy to take off once area is warmed up with hair dryer.
