Step actuator

I replaced the leaking step cover actuator on my coach today and would like to have the old one resealed or in some way repaired to keep as a spare or the sell. Has anyone had this done?

I think you mean the valve (rectangular block about an inch wide) and if so you can either take it apart and replace o rings or? or just buy a new one as a spare.

No I used the wrong description in the subject line. I'm talking about the air actuator that operates the step cover inside the coach. It's a silver tube about 18 inches long with a fitting on each end.

Maybe this will help.
This was my step cylinder.
If the step well cover actuator is made by Ingersall Rand these contacts should be able to help.

Here is the step cylinder overhaul info:

You can get the kit from:

Salesman is Terry Falkena at
800-918-8939 ext 233.

The new p/n for my step cyl 1995 U320se) is
2418-1089-081DFF-B18AST
The kit p/n is Rk2418-10.

If you can't get the cyl apart (or don't want to do it)
Call Denise Marsh at Ingersall Rand at 419-633-6926.
I sent the actuator and o/h kit to her.
She ran it through the training dept. No charge and even paid the return shipping!

Falconguy, how much of PITA was it to change out the air cylinder.

Bill, I had it done at MOT. It took the tech (Samson Perez, who I was very pleased with by the way ) about 1 1/2 hrs to R & R it . Had to drop the front air tank to get it out.

John, I haven't cleaned it completely to look for part numbers etc, but it has Foretravel Inc stenciled on it. No other obvious marks noted at this point. It looks really simple; almost like it was fabricated on site.

I took mine out but luckily I have a pit and once the gen was slid forward I am able to reach up and take the end brackets out and drop cylinder. I looked at it and there was no way to rebuild it for seals which is the main reason for problems. Leaking air out the front end. I put it back and added the NC valve on rear actuator as shown in my posting a year or so ago. The price for a new cylinder I was told is around $250 which is a joke. So ours works fine and no loss of air once the new valve is switched off by switch on front panel.
