ISO Meritor slack adjuster template

I'm in search of the Meritor slack adjuster template.

I replaced the rear rotors on my 1997 U320. They were heavily cracked and long-past their service life. Using the Rockwell stamped tag on the rear axle I was able to identify the correct parts needed (axle seal, one of the nuts was buggered). See tag photo.

To correctly adjust the slack adjusters, Meritor suggests using the correct 'template'. Calling Meritor, they told me the correct slack adjuster part number is R802462 for the left and R802463 for the right one. The templates are inside the box if/when you purchase a new slack adjuster but I don't need a new one as these are in fine condition. Does anyone have a template that I can use? They are not available separately, only when you purchase a new adjuster.

I've never had much great luck with auto slack adjusters really working perfectly. Every once in a while I crawl under there and just adjust them manually. Usually it needs 1 click or so.

I've had projects that were less work and less frustrating.  We had a really hard time getting one inner wheel nut off. We tried penetrating oil, heat, uber torque - but had to resort to welding the frozen inner wheel nut to an outer nut to get it off.

Also, when they don't realize there are left-handed threads on one side and right-handed threads on the other...marked with a "L" and "R".

Steve, you should not need the template to change the slack adjuster, unless the brake chamber has been replaced or the clevis on the brake chamber rod has been moved.
