HWH Air Comp Motor

The HWH air comp does not operate. I have voltage to the back of the motor and at the solenoid. Pressure switch is calling for the air comp to run.

Is there a way to check the windings with a VOM? Fuses and relay have checked out ok.

Thanks,

jack

If the 2002 has the Thomas TA-4101-DC compressor, the manual with some info is in the Media/Files section on the forum and here

I did look at those resources and others. The only references I could locate was on the motor brushes.

Now trying to find a way to trouble shoot the motor without disassembly. Looks like I need to take the motor apart and inspect the brushes. Barry did have some info on this and a repair kit number for the motor.

I looked at the PDF files on this Comp ,and it mentioned replacing parts at certain hr intervals .but how would you keep track of this with out a hr meter ?
I'm somewhat lucky however i have two more compressors sitting on my shelf in the basement , one is new ,the other is for parts.

Update on the HWH air compressor.

This problem was with my brother-n-law's 2002 U320 40' Foretravel.

Pulled the air compressor, removed the end plate and inspected the brushes. It appeared the motor had gotten hot from my inspection of the brushes and the retaining mechanisms. There is some plastic around the brush holder. It looks like the plastic got hot enough to soften and keep the brushes from touching the motor armature (or whatever it's called). I cleaned the brushes and all around the mechanism that keeps the brushes up against the armature and reassembled. Installed new motor rubber vibration mounts, compressor and wired it back.

Motor runs like a new one.

The next question to arise is why did the motor get hot. Well, with all hooked back up, the motor started and ran until it got the pressure up to about 60 psi and could not build up the pressure for cut-off.

Must be a leak somewhere. Sure enough, we (my brother-in-law and I) located a leak in the slide bladder.

I think he needs a new bladder or at least his coach does.

Thanks to all for the responses and to the forum for it's invaluable resources and references.

My bladder is just fine, thank you very much.  Not so much for the coach bladder.  I'm the brother in law whose coach Jack has been working on.  Jack and I found a hole/rip/whatever in the rear bottom of the slide out. Turned off the valve to the bladder and the compressor built to the cut off point and held.  For the moment the HWH compressor is shutdown by disconnecting the power.  Not going to use the slide until repaired.  Called HWH for an appointment and replacement bladder...love those guys.

I can't  thank Jack enough for all the time he has spent working on my coach.  He keeps saying we are learning together, but he's the one pushing the tools.  And one of his main resources is this site. Thanks to all of you.

Think I found the cause of the aux pump running continuously.  Found a leaking valve (attached pic) on the feeder line to the bladder.  Is this repairable or need to replace?
Also now hear some air escaping from the slide bladder on the DS rear corner.

That is the same place my brother-in-law's 2002 FT is leaking from the bladder.

After you drain the air from the system and remove the valve you should be able to remove the snap rig off the bottom of the valve stem this will let you push the stem out of the body.  Once out you should have 3 "O" rings to replace. (2 around the stem one of which is apparently leaking) and 1 that is smaller that seal the hole off through the stem off so the valve will seal shut.  Used a good quality silicone lube on the new o rings before you shove it back together. We have fixed many of these over the years.

OK I thought I had the exact valve here but this is the same valve except in SS.  It took the whole of 10 min to dissemble, take pics, install new o rings, and re assemble.  On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most difficult this is a -2.
