Charging system question

Hi,

Quick, simple question.

I had posted a while back about my house batteries "boiling" right away when on shore power.  Consensus was probably a dead cell or battery issue and not my PowerDynamics converter (replaced the original 4 yrs ago).  Got to back of shed and removed the two house batteries this past week and plugged in for a bit first to observe things before removing batteries.

I'd never really paid attention but the generator switch was hmmming and the converter silent.  Just wanted to be sure this is how it should be- I always thought the converter had a fan and was making the "noise"?  Just wanting some reassurance before ruining two new batteries...

Dan,

Not unusual for an ATS to have a 60 cycle hum.  No fan in it though.

The converter may have a fan, but may be temperature controlled.  Was it warm to the touch?

Replace it with a manual switch - no more hum.  Silence is golden!
