Right Mirror Camera

On the way home with our "New to Us" 09 Nimbus, I adjusted the lower mirror position and the camera activated by turn signal stopped working. This leads me to believe that a camera connection in the mirror housing may have been disrupted causing the failure. The screen goes black with signal activation. Looking for advice to shake this out.

Greetings, Don!

You haven't received a rousing response to your question.  It's nothing personal, I'm sure...just not that many owners of Nimbi (is that the pleural form of Nimbus?) on the Forum.  You may have more luck this weekend, when more folks are on line.

Meantime, have you looked at your wiring diagram for clues?  That is my first step in solving any electrical problem.  You need to know what wires connect to the camera.  Foretravel labels most of the wires at each end, making it easier to identify a particular circuit.  Once you know what wires are "suspect", it is a matter of physically locating them, checking connections, and looking for shorts.  It is also a good idea to determine how the camera power circuit is grounded, and check that.  Bad grounds cause LOTS of electrical glitches.

Knowing nothing about your coach, I can't offer more than that.  Hopefully more specific answers will soon follow.

Welcome to the forum.

Did the camera work before you adjusted the mirror?  Have you checked to see if the camera works if you adjust the mirror back where it was?

Sounds like you may have pinched the cable, causing a short, when you adjusted the mirror.

I am just guessing on the possible problems, since my 98 U320 doesn't have side cameras.

If its changing to a black screen then its picking up the trigger (directional) indicating that the video multiplexer is working but not getting a video feed.

Does your other side camera work?  The camera gets its power from the multiplexer.

The mirror camera on mine does not have any connections inside the mirror itself, so I'd be surprised if anything pulled apart inside the mirror.  Of course a poorly routed or loose cable could always get pinched / cut.  You should be able to adjust the mirrors so you can see inside / behind can check if there is anything obviously wrong.

The video connection on mine are inside the coach, not far from the side of the coach where the mirror wire bundle enters.  The video connector has a latch, so pulling it apart is not easy, but never say never.  Its a single wire that carries the power and video signal.

Thanks for the rousing responses. I spent last night rummaging through the component OEM manuals and shop drawings and have not yet identified the wiring diagrams that would show the camera circuits. The camera worked fine until I adjusted the the lower mirror. This occurred on the trip home from MoT. I adjusted the mirror back to the approximate original position and still no work. The left side camera works fine. I now have a place to start so thanks to all for the advise and I'll report back.

Got some results. I opened the panel in front of the passenger seat, found the bundle of wires entering the mirrior, wiggled and checked each of the connectors. It started working again. Made a weekend trip and it worked fine. Its a non issue.

Im trying to turn out the left mirror beam. Pulled the cap, removed the 3/8 bolt but the the beam wont turn in the mirror mount. Is it a taper or a spline holding the beam in place. Looked at the Ramco site and no help there.

Welcome to the Foreforum family! Your Ramco mirrors are likely  different, but on ours once you loosen the set screws which hold the mirror housing upright, the mirrors orientation and rotation can be easily adjusted. Basically, it is a ball and socket. If you are talking about swinging the arm in or out, on ours that is a ¾ inch bolt and there isn't a taper or spline where it enters the piece that is attached to the coach body. I found a bit of lubricant in the joint freed it up, as it had been in one place so long that it just forgot that it could move.

I am familiar with your mirror style and think mine is different. I removed a 3" x 3/8 bolt from the bottom of the mirror mount and the base was still connected solid to the mirror beam. I'll try some penetrating oil, maybe it will loosen. It has likely never been changed. My goal is to position the left mirror outward.

The end of the second story is, the mirror beam is connected to the mounting assembly utilizing a taper/ compression connection. As was suggested, some penetrating oil and dead blow shock therapy loosened the beam from the mount and I was able to rotate the mirror beam to the forward position. My 98 320 left mirror was always in the forward position so I now feel more at home. The right mirror camera that was the original problem is still working fine.
