Electronic accelerator on U320 came apart.

We were returning from an enjoyable weekend around Fredricksburg and stopped near Livingstonthis afternoon.  When I cranked the coach to leave again it would not respond to the throttle.  I can use the cruise control to increase idle rpm, but the accelerator pedal does nothing.  Crawling onto the floor with a small mirror to look for an unhooked throttle cable shows me that the accelerator must be an electronic device like a rheostat.  OK, that makes sense, but does anybody have any tips on what to look for and/or how to replace it?  My coach is 1997 U320 with the M-11.  We found a few tiny pieces of clear plastic and a very small fiber washer under the accelerator pedal, and I suspect that these were originally part of the rheostat device.

I idled the coach into a good parking spot for the night and got the OK from the owner to leave it there overnight.  We transferred our necessities to the toad and came home.  I am hoping that you tell me it is a simple bolt-in replacement readily available at Foretravel.  Anyway, unless I hear differently from you I plan to point my Goldwing toward Nacogdoches in time to be at FOT about 8:00 AM.

Thanks in advance,
Glen

Glen, last time I saw you was in Nac at MOT luncheon.
If you do have a throttle sender they are available many places and of course at FT or MOT. They just are held on with screws to back of throttle pedal and wired with connector. There is a simple set up you may have to do but easy.

Hope it is just the sensor as that is what mine was thought to be 2 yrs ago but turned out to be 4 broken pins on the ECM on side of engine. My Fuel filter is in front of it and some time when I used to have a Diesel shop change filters it must have got damaged. I did not think your engine was electronic ?

Hello John.  I remember very well meeting you and your wife at the MOT luncheon.  I proved once again that day that I'll ride a long way for free food!

Thanks for the info.  I'll pick one up in the morning in Nacogdoches, head to Livingston to install it, and hopefully get my coach back home by nightfall.

I appreciate the help.

1997 model coach - probably has the King Control throttle and cruise control.  See the 2nd topic ("Fly By Wire Throttle") in link below:

If Foretravel does not have the required parts, try calling:

The pedal is fastened to the floor with screws.  You can remove it to examine the parts and wiring.

I have had trouble with the coil a year ago and sprayed it with contact cleaner and that fixed it. Coming back from Alaska a few weeks ago the King control quit on me and it turned out to be that mechanism in side the box by the engine was hanging up. I move it back and forth and it has been working fine now

FOT had one complete accelerator assembly.  They do not stock, nor can they get any parts, just the complete assembly for a little over $400.  Only scary thing was that the electrical parts cannot be returned in case the problem might be something else instead of the accelerator.

In the end, I bought the complete assembly, rode to Livingston, installed it in the coach, and all is good.  Thanks for you help.

Good news Glenn, at least you are back in service (and to try to forget the $400 just dream you have just finished a nice long trip and burnt that much Diesel)!!
