92 Grand Villa door bell

I have a '92 Grand Villa U-240 with an inoperable doorbell......Are there any secrets to helping me find the problem?

Welcome, Brookner!  Always glad to have more GV owners join the group.  When you get a chance, you could fill out your coach information in the "signature" box on your profile page.  This will help other members provide more relevant answers to your questions.

I would encourage you to become familiar with the "Search" function on this Forum.  It is a powerful tool, and you can use it to find the solutions to many mysteries.  For instance, if you searched for "doorbell" you might get the following hits:

Doorbell fire hazard (was What did you do to your coach today)

What type of doorbell will work?

Go to your local hardware store and get one of the wireless ones and use that. No wire/fires/messing around to worry about.

If you happen to have gotten the '92 U-240 that we owned (and have we lost track of) it has a hid on/off switch that is located on the case of the doorbell that is located in the overhead cabinet.

My strong recommendation is to disconnect the door bell-- remove the hot wire in the door bell box and put a butt connector on it so it can not contact ground.

The door bell works by the button making contact to ground the circuit.  That energizes the solenoid that rings the bell. The problem is that water can get in the button and make contact.  Then the solenoid stays energized, and can stay that way until it gets hot enough to melt/catch fire.

Either understand that you could hear someone knocking on the door or get a wireless door bell.

I'm not sure which PO did it, but ours was done that way, don't miss it at all!  ^.^d
