FT roof coating

I was wanting to ask any member that have had their roof coating done by FT; and what to expect? And how long did it take to do?

When I had my roof coating done at FT, it took two days. We did have to get a room for one night. It was a superb job and glad it was done.

got proposals from Xtreme and FOT, done by MOT.

MOT used some type of material that had, as I heard it, crushed glass and gave a coating that protected against UV and chalking and made it much safer to walk on, especially when wet, but even dry is a big difference.  Have had three years.  Very worth it to me.  FOT proposed a rubber based coating, do not know why, but more expensive and heavier.  Imagine either would work though.

We had ours done at Extreme in 2010, it is white Polyurethane with ground glass, no cracks no blisters, looks as good as when we had it done, and it is not slippery.

Mine was done at FOT as part of a package deal that included some other roof repairs. I have been very happy with it. Do not recall being out of the coach but it has been a while.

Foretravel proposed using an elastomeric high build coating to bridge any cracks. I chose to go with Xtreme who properly repaired any cracks before coating. Its been three years with no cracks, chalking or blisters.

We had FOT coat our roof.  It has stopped the streaking down the sides of the chalky white and it just hoses right off.  We are very pleased.

My two cents: Forrest had the Xtreme treatment. But I am partial to their work ethic & customer care. Either coating will achieve the same results.

I like a slippery roof . Don't go up there , no ladder , can't get there . Now if a cat burglar was sneaking about he just might slip and fall . If he was wanted I would be able to go out tie him up and call the police . And---the biggie ---collect the reward $$$$$  How you going to beat that think ???        Brad Metzger

FOT did ours.  We did have some small hairline cracks that they repaired before they put the coating on.  I spoke with both FOT and MOT re:  coating type, components, and application methods.  Having spent 20 years in the painted metal business I kinda understood what the coatings did and the application methods including the problems with intercoat adhesion, flexibility, UV and stuff like that.  Although they are somewhat different the results are the same.  No white streaks and easy to clean.  Having the roof coated was one of the first things that we had done to our Ol' Girl.  We primarily chose FOT because we wanted to have the roof coated, have Wayne check/adjust the front alignment and we wanted their input on our Zip Dee awning that was not working.  It was easier to route through the different departments as opposed to going to multiple locations.  Roof coating was good, Wayne was good, however I did not follow FOT's recommendation about our awning.

The job took two days.  ;D

These days, he would claim your coach roof was a "attractive nuisance" and sue you for a zillion bucks.  Better if he breaks his neck.

FT put something they called "armor coat" on my roof when it was repainted in 2010.  Unfortunately it really doesn't appear to be that strong.  Any fiberglass cracks from underneath easily translate through and crack the armor coat.  So don't be lulled if you get it.  An annual roof scubbing and hands and knees inspection is still a *really* good idea.

Has anyone investigated the new "deck-over" products sold by Home Depot. I am really impressed with how well the do and hold up on a wood or concrete deck and wonder if they wouldn't be a great roof coating.

Just a thought.

New to the forum,

There were a lot of abbreviations used in this thread. Can I get a translation for FT, FOT, MOT and xtream?

Thanks

FT-Foretravel
FOT-Foretravel of Texas (the Foretravel factory or mothership)

Slight tweak on this - FT is generic for Foretravel and could also mean the manufacturer/parent company and includes the paint shop so it's the mothership rather than FOT being so

FOT= Foretravel of Texas is the sales and service entity.  Foretravel (company) runs "FT" and "FOT" as separate businesses.  You'll see this on a service invoice if you have any exterior work done - it will be "sublet" to FT and there is no MC (Motorcade Club) discount on sublet work.

Ours was done about 4 years ago at FT....combined with fiberglass work from a tree limb that had managed to put a pretty good groove in the top...... Freezing and thawing up north for a couple winters finished to a nice split...... FT did a real Nice job:  had a bit of adherence problem in the first few months (around one of the vents). Taken care of and no trouble with it since......
