Refrigerator Internal Multiple Fan addition
This was one update that I did trying to save my Dometic refrigerator from a major overhaul but that was not to be but it will serve the new cooling unit well circulating the air in the refrigerator. I bought these fans for Cooling Unit Warehouse also with the triple mount external fans which will also be added to the new unit when installed. The internal fans just had an alligator clip that held them in place which I was not overly fond of and the on/off switch was on the bottom where it could easily be bumped to the opposite position when retrieving items from the refrigerator. Thinking it would be better to have a solid continuous mount would be much better fitting flush with the fins for cooling. The switch is mounted on the top and can still be individually turned on or off as needed. It was made from the .025 thk. aluminum and was fairly easy to cut on a table saw by raising the blade through the center portions that needed to be removed. Radiusing the corners first using a 3/8" Forstner bit was better to protect the thin supports in the middle.
The fin attaching point were accomplished using sliding window stops but be careful to strip away any finish, small file, for the ground to connect to the fins as that is your fans ground connection. I drilled and tapped the mounts instead of gluing or riveting as it was easier and I replaced the thumbscrews with Stainless Steel hex set screws and of course SS screws. Mounting is easy but you have to move two of the fins in to make it possible to tighten with the allen wrench but they are then more permanent and the weight is also taken up by the 3/4" brake at the top resting on the fins.
Having to drill out the rivet of the alligator clip being careful to not break the grounding wire which was reattached to one of the mounting rivets on reassembly. The wiring was hooked to the refrigerator light as well as the LED strips which I later added. A quad terminal block was mounted inside the light unit to handle all the wiring needs. I used a screw and wing nut to mount the block so it would provide easy removal for adding or deleting items as needed. Photos of that will come later as well.
By the way, I did all the drawing on Google Sketchup 2016 which is a free download. A handy tool to use but not as good as Autocad but yet simple enough for the average person to use with taking a course.
