black/gray dump pipe adapter?

Our coach still has the original plumbing, from the looks of it the pipe twist connection is larger than the Rhino hoses I have from the former coach.
Is there a clear 90deg elbow that will reduce to the common Rhino hose?
thanks

There is an adapter sold at most RV stores which will permit the use of the more common size hose and fittings. I have not seen a 90 with this adapter "built in". Many Foretravel owners have added the "third valve gate" by cutting the pipe back, adding the valve then connected to a 90 which will permit the "door" to be closed with the hose connected to sewer.

The third valve works quite well; as it is serviceable, prevents any surprises when removing the cap , and a built in bonus of filling the black tank 1/4 full to flush with grey water by manipulating the valves.

Others, much more seasoned than I will be able to guide your thoughts on this.

What you have is a Thetford connection on your coach and a Valtera connection on your Rhino hose.  You need to remove the old connection from the coach and replace it with a Valtera termination connection .  You can buy a adapter that does the same, but they leak.

Red,  Just start with the adapter first,  and if that works you are home free.  You could also make a short hose that has a white Thetford angled connector with hooks on one end and the Valterra with bumps on the other end.  Leave this new home-made adapter hose on the end of your Rhino and you will also be ready to roll.  We have been using the latter for 15 years.

I use the adapter from Thetford to the Rhino hose but I don't care for that arrangement and intend to re-plumb mine .  That adapter takes up more space which is very limited on the 91 GV.  The Thetford has only two locking tabs where as the Rhino has four, much better for locking and sealing.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

I just cut the old one off and replaced it with a valterra glue on. Problem solved.

This subject is always interesting (to me) when it comes up.  Definitely a case of "different strokes for different folks".  Red (the OP) has a '02 model, so some things that work on older coaches may not work for him.  Seems like every coach Foretravel built had a different setup in the dump bay.  That's what makes owning them fun!

I vote for Barry's solution: start simple, and work up from there.  Search "third dump valve" on the Forum for lots of ideas on how to implement that configuration, if you so desire.  Like this one, for instance:

I too cut off the old white connection, and glued on a new black connector.  My thoughts were that the black connectors and hoses are available for purchase everywhere.  In addition, all your neighbors will likely have them as well.

I carry a third valve, and can lock it on as needed, or if I ever found that either the black or grey tank valves needed a rebuild.  In that case, using the third valve would allow me the chance to do the repair, at a later time.
And as mentioned, when I want, with the third valve, I can use the grey water to back flush the black tank 2-4 times.  I also have a clear part that shows how well the back flush worked.  It seems so wasteful to use fresh clean water to fill and flush a black tank, like I see so often at dump stations in some parks.

Thankyou all!
It appears that I may not have the clearance from the existing pipe to the access door for an extra valve, and may not have clearance for the elbow to aim down thru the trap door with an adapter (thetford to valterra) but will go see what is available locally.

Ditto on the valterra end.

Plus a clear third valve with a hose fitting and valve on it and a clear extension

Can you post a pic of your wet bay/sewer set up?

We had to cut off the white hose attachment a little further back to get the Valterra spade connector and the clear 90 Deg. attachment connected.  ;D

Our 3" black pipe does not come straight out as others do.  We could not connect a third valve on our set up.  yours might be the same as ours.

Yep, ours has a straight pipe (e/w) from the tank "Y"s to the water bay then a 90deg elbow to point it (n/s) @ the trap door.
The thetford cap is mounted to the elbow.
will have to see if I can get the program for this phone to upload pic's to laptop (Iphone)

From the pic's you don't have many simple options. My idea would be to either put a Thetford end on the hose or cut the Thetford connector off and glue a Valtera connector to the stub that would be left if you took a Sawzall  and cut the abs flush with Thetford connector.

You  have the same set up as we do.  However, we had about 3" of straight pipe between the Thetford fitting and the end of the 90 deg. elbow.  We were able to cut the Thetford off and still have about 2" to attach the Valterra spade end fitting.  It doesn't look like you have enough room to do that.

I have no easy suggestion for you either.  You might be able to cut off the Thetford off and use an internal plastic coupler into the 90 then glue the Valterra on to it.  I am not a plumber so I do not know if such a thing exists.

You will also be hard pressed to put a 3rd valve on your system as well.

Wish I had an easy solution for you.  Actually there probably is one - I just don't know what it is.

I would also guess that some knowledgeable FoFum member will provide it for you.

Good luck.  :D

When it quits raining (yea right it's Oregon!) will see about pulling the the black panel cover under the main white cabinets, mebbe can build from closer to the "Y" all the way out to the trap door.
That's 3.5 inch pipe isn't it?

You don't have room to make changes.  Put this hose fitting on your Rhino hose and your done.

OK, Got her did!
found a short coupling, cut off the thetford leaving a 1/4 inch of it  on the 3" short nipple.
Carefully peeled the rest of the thetford off the nipple "buffed it with a spin sander on the 3/8 drill,  leaving abt 9/16"  of clear 3" nipple.
Doped it up with correct abs cement and done!
should hold ok as it is not a true pressurized line
cost under $8
