D2 governor identification

I am trying to find my D2 governor so that I can adjust it. Is this it?

Royce,

That looks like the 120vac engine heating element. Check to see if the cord runs up to the plug at the front of the engine compartment.  Your D2 should be on the other side of the engine closer to your air compressor.

Ours is mounted on the frame, curb side, engine compartment, hidden behind the power steering hydraulic reservoir.

Both my coaches had the D2 located on the side frame rails, near the compressor and dryer.  On the 1998, U295, it is in plain view, curb side.

They are preset at some number and can be adjusted by removing the top black plastic cap and turning the screw found under in the center.  Many threads about how high one should set the limits.

What is the purpose of the valve?

They are very affordable through NAPA. And very straight forward to replace. Most likely preset wouldn't go out of adjustment.

I am talking about the valve you put in the port of the governor.

That is the supply line for my "wet tank" pressure gauge, mounted in engine compartment.

I think I have found my governor but I don't think it is a Bendix. It doesn't look much like the one in the service document at the link posted by Chuck above. I can see stamped labels for the unload, reservoir (supply tank), and exhaust ports. However, what is throwing me is the adjustment cap, if that is what the black end piece is. It does unscrew, but that doesn't fit the description that I have read in the service document. Anyone else have one like this?

I have to disagree with craneman - that is a D-2 governor, exactly the same as in my photos above.  Royce's photos are just taken at a "lower" angle, and the 3rd one needs to be rotated 90 degrees to the right.  I can't see enough of the cap on the top to tell which kind it is.  In the tech document I linked above, it mentions there are 3 different styles of cap.  I think this one may be the "black rubber" model.

Royce, if you can unscrew the cap, go ahead and do so.  If you have the threaded screw and lock nut under the cap, it is a adjustable D-2.

Also, if I were you, I would pick up a spare D-2 the next time you visit a NAPA store.  They are not expensive, and it is good insurance to carry one in your coach.  The one in your photos looks like it has been in place for quite a while, so it may be nearing the end of it's service life.  Or, it may last another million miles...who knows?  Like Ken(hat) says, "Carry a spare, and the old one will never fail".

If your D2 is out of adjustment I would replace it.  It is an important part that is directly related to your brake system and all other air systems on your coach.  If it has lost adjustment from preset, it is starting to fail.  The part cost approximately $18.00 and will take less than a half hour to replace.  It can be purchased at any Bendix dealer / large truck parts place.
This advice is from my son who is a diesel master tech.  He says their business never adjust and always replace the D2 as a policy if they loose adjustment.
I replaced mine last week while on the road when the "unload" pressure started to climb.  I carry a spare on the coach--- cheap insurance.
