Colorado (not the state)

Bought a 2016 Colorado 4X4 diesel to tow and retire our '06 Acura MDX. Was hoping to take it to the Grandvention but it needs to have at least 500 plus miles on it for a brake in period according to the owners book. It sure drives nice!

Boy Richard, I like that truck. Looks like a hill climber to me. Is it a four cylinder or six?

Hi Lynn, it's the 4 cyl 2.8 L Duramax Turbo diesel, LT short bed model. Don't plan on doing any extreme off road stuff with it so it works for us. Has most all the bells and whistles that the Z71 does but not the price tag. For the 4 days we've had it, it's averaged 26MPG. Should increase after putting some miles on it.

What it weigh? How set it to toad mode...have keep speed down? disconnect battery?

I found a pretty good review of the truck done by Car and Driver magazine. You can get it online.

Not sure on this one but. My Tahoe all you have to do is with engine running put shifter in neutral, turn the 4x4 knob all the way to to the right and hold it there for a few seconds until a red light lights. Then kill engine and move shifter to park. Pull key and lock door. No limit on speed.

Michael, pretty much as turbo jack said. There's a sequence of steps one must follow before towing, no speed limit that I could find
And you must disconnect the neg. battery cable. I asked if I could install a charger like I have for the Acura and they said if I did that and left the battery connected, the odometer would record towed miles also.? My truck weighs 4500 lbs.

I need to check and see if my Tahoe is recording mileage being towed.

Hi Richard,

That is a great truck, looking at one myself for a tow car. Presently towing a 4x4 Tahoe, I don't disconnect the battery, maybe I should, but odometer does not record tow miles. Usually stop after 2 or 3 hours and start the tow car. Have had dead battery a couple of times when I first started towing, probably should disconnect. By the way, hope to see you and Betty on the next California Xmas rally.

Save yourself some hassle - install a battery disconnect switch on the towd. You could put it on either POS or NEG battery cable - whichever is most convenient. Lots of different designs available - this one looks pretty nice for the price:

Doesn't the disconnect have something to do with the change over a few years back from hydraulic to electronic power steering?

Ha Brad, I would have the smallest ATV out there as the bed is a shorty! But it would sure hold my old Hodaka ACE 100!
Chuck, that was my thought also. Will try and find out for sure if I really have to disconnect the battery and what will happen if I don't, and about using a charger when towing.
Forewheelers, don't know about that changeover, will try and find that out also.

I am just thinking of all of the problems when you disconnect the battery. First the hassle of doing, radio looses it's time, transmission goes back to default and looses driving habits that it has learned.

Ford sounds interesting due to weight down 750 lbs. On mid-sized trucks, if I can hook up like our Jeep, then that may be an option except that some non-rver reviews seem to ask, what is the advantage over full size truck?

To me it could be the weight so that is why I am interested in that. Mpg in Car and Driver review was not seem an advantage as I read it.

People see their needs differently, what great for one may not fit anothers but Canyon or Colorado looks a good option for me.....

Thanks, did not know of it....in complete disclosure, i think I need to change from the Jeep as it is now difficult for DW to enter with bum knee. Not need pickup feature but if had it i could sell the pu i already have, use the new pu as toad.

We like the Jeep, easy to park, towing very friendly, comfortable enough for 150 mile road trip, good off roading at level we do.

Just finished first tank of fuel, drove 450 miles, averaged 24.8 MPG! Not bad, should increase as engine gets broken in. Haven't heard back from GMC front office as to why I have to disconnect the battery yet.

If the response is like any I get when I question something, it might be around 2+ weeks before you get an answer
