U Line

I started to replace my ice maker and when I became completely disgusted with the condition of the old one and having to make modifications to the new one, when it occurred to me that I  was "putting a band aide" on a 17 year old appliance.  Ordered a whole new unit today and kick myself for not thinking about that sooner.

Well said, and it applies to almost everything on our coaches. Hey, you got your investment out of it, in spades. What put me over the edge was having a Dometic fridge "re-built"; lasted a year.  :-[

We found that we did not use enough ice cubes to justify our stand alone U-line ice maker.  Out is came, made a new matching wood door, and boy do we love the very large new kitchen storage.

We keep single row covered ice cube trays in our freezer, bag the ice it makes and we easily have enough ice for our selves.

We did cap off the ice maker water line where it connects to our water filter under the sink

We saw Barry's idea in a old post, and stole it (fortunately, statute of limitations has run out).  Removed our still-functional U-Line, gave it away, had 2 big drawers installed.  The original doors that covered the storage space under the old fridge, when flipped and reversed, fit over the new drawers perfectly!  KUDOS to Larry & Bookie (FOT Remodel Shop) for the excellent wood work.

(Work still in progress when photos taken - coach normally looks a little bit cleaner...)

We seldom used much ice either, and, seeing that the ice maker had a tendency to create cubes together with ice slabs we decided that we had something more useful to us.
 John had our GV for a while to do some upgrades and maintenance so I asked if he would install a wine cooler we had in storage.
 Believe me this gets plenty of use and has drawn many good comments from people that ask what type of motorhome is this and if they can have a look inside.

Ours have the same (similar) drawers but one long door as we have the top one, then 2 same size (about 8" deep then an open area under them for "stuff")
Never have enough storage.

We discussed having a cabinet maker put in new drawers, but decided on getting the replacement.  We don't use that much ice (but look forward to some margaritas) and plan to use the ice maker as an auxiliary freezer.  Since we have a mid entry coach, we have the "single wide" refrigerator and can use the extra space to put our pre-cooked vacuum sealed meals into.  We find that we don't need that much storage for kitchen utensils.  When I cook, for example, I use only a couple of knives and the same large fry pan and maybe two different pots.  In our Safari, we had a lot more kitchen storage, but most of the stuff we carried was never used.

Every five years or so, we get a couple of park tables and pull everything out of the coach. Amazing how much "stuff" has found it's way in that is not being used for anything other than taking up space. We've learned the phrase, "Americans love stuff."
