Generator mystery parts

We have the Powertech 10kw generator with the Kubota engine.

Started the generator, it shut down after a few minutes. Started again, shut down after about a minute. Found hi temp failure.

Checked the generator, found the remote fill neck was leaking coolant. Talked to FOT, the assembly is no longer made but they had a rebuilt. Ordered and installed.

As many others have found, the insulation in the quiet box was disintegrating and collapsing. Proceeded to pull out as much as possible. While doing this a round object that appears to be a piece of insulation covered in black tape came out. I don't know where it came from.

While replacing the remote fill neck I noticed in the back of the quiet box there was a length of black hose about 2" diameter standing straight up. Hose is completely open at the top. Adjacent to the hose there is a hole in the side of the quiet box, looks about the right size to fit the hose. The hose is pretty stiff, would take some force to bend it to get it to the hole. Also, looks like the round object described above might fit either the hole in the side of the box or the hose at the back of the box

What's the hose for?
Do I need to cap the hose?
Whats the round object for?

Is it time to take this in to someone who actually knows what they're doing?

Thanks
Mike
