A word of caution about MCD shades

One of my upgrades was motorized separate day/night shades. I had some minor damage to one of my night shades. I called MCD about repair and a not so friendly gentleman told me they do not do repairs and transferred me to a lady who asked me for my model number.

She said that will be $600 plus shipping. WHAT, I said, why so much for one shade? She said because they are on the same bracket you have to buy the entire assembly. I said no thanks.

I believe this is called prestiege pricing.  Huge profit margins result from these items.

Is there a local outfit that can take a look and repair the existing shade?

Hey Peter, I think I will live it. It is not that noticeable. But I thought it would be around $100 to just put a new night shade on the roller. The other issue is matching the shade color which only MCD has.

I know this is an old thread, but it stuck in my mind and we have a different experience to relay.  We had a problem with our front motorized day blind starting to be cranky about lowering.  I contacted MCD online and had a good technical discussion with support - they diagnosed a bad motor.

A couple of weeks ago we showed up unannounced at MCD with the 9 year old blind assembly in hand on a Monday (we live about an hour from McKinney).  Despite being down team member, their sales gal and tech support guy took our blind and tested it for us, then replaced the motor at no labor charge, just parts. 

Now, I'm not sure if they would have handled a fabric replacement quite so readily, but certainly if you can visit in person we found them very customer-friendly and willing to try and work with you.
