Another Smart Plug installation

Barry (of Barry & Cindy) has already submitted a great posting re: the benefits and installation of the "Smart Plug"
New style Smartplug shore cable plug

I wanted to reacquaint you with the process and describe a different winkle.

For some time I have had a additional 50 amp shore power cable with the regular twist-lock plug on one and an female 30 amp TT connector on the other.  One of the winkles is that it is only 1 foot long. In other words, a "dogbone" that connects to the coach instead of the power pedestal.
The advantage for me is that when I have to use 30 amp shore power I can make the adaptation inside the bin at the power inlet rather than possibly out in  the weather. Also, I can use the 30 amp shore power cord and don't have to wrestle with the yellow "octopus".  Thus the 30 amp to 15 amp adapter also connects out of the weather.

A few pictures:
o You can make the bulkhead connector  change with out taking out the bulkhead.
o  I built another 50-30 adapter

I will soon list the twistlock parts for sale in the Classified section.

Elliott,

What is the story behind the piece of cardboard over your sewer door?

It is a piece of about 2" thick gray foam. I did a little shaping on the slab to fit under the sewer pipe and above the edges of the hatch.

The first time we took the coach out (if not the very first, close enough) I neglected to latch the sewer door.
It is somewhere roaming the highways and byways of Texas!!

Actually the foam does great and there is no way to forget it when we service the tanks.

Elliott,

Mine split in half after I got my crushed rock RV pad. As the air bags lowered, it became trapped between a couple of the larger rocks. Pretty crummy Foretravel design; it was not able to support my 33,000 # RV. Now I have two pieces. I have thought of trying to J-B Weld it back together, but that is a difficult shape to maintain while it cures. Have also considered using a piece of stainless steel to replace it. Unfortunately it is 1/8" thick; even if I can cut it (probably doable), getting the proper curve on it won't be easy.  :'(

(Although that 33,000 Foretravel press I have might help,)  ^.^d

Elliott & Mary,  We continue to consider removing our shore cable's 50-amp twist-plug (Hubbell-type) one of the smartest safety modifications we have made.  SmartPlug's coach connection is MUCH more secure and I also like the clever snap-in cover for an unplugged cable.

I like your short "shore" cable.  We were able to make a similar "dog-bone" with a store-bought range pigtail, and another use is to keep our 50-amp Autoformer in the bay where it is dry and secure.  Your 30-amp connection is more secure & dry when locked up in the bay.

Trent, yours should be the same as mine that I rebuilt so take a picture of it and maybe I will build you a new one and you can then just screw the hinge in place of the old one.
